How is TUF for shitty fighters? Forrest Griffin, Diego Sanchez, Koshcheck, Joe Stevenson to name a few. I dont think that Danzig NEEDED to be on the show, but even if they knew he was going to win, then you already answered your own question. TUF draws a huge crowd, and if you bring Danzig into the octagon without TUF then people say "who?" Now that we all know who he is, we will anticipate his fights. Enough said
On a side note, I wish he would have been on the Jens, BJ show, then we would have seen how he matches up with the likes of Manny, Diaz or Lauzon.

Ah, my bad, I didn't read closely enough, and don't pay enough attention to which fighter was on what season, regardless. You pwned me!
I do think it's amazing how many fights Dewees has...and wants to fight 8 or 9 times in 2008, after a year layoff. The words crash and burn keep coming to mind for some reason.

PTP...Not sure if you were referring to my quote early in the thread, but I think the series has gone completely down hill since that first year.
Think about it...what did the last season really give us? I think more people will remember the upper decker incident will be able to name even half of the fighters in the house. The focus is more on drama and less on fighting, by design.
I think they should drop the show to a half hour...actually do two houses, give each a half-hour show back-to-back, focus 40/60 on training/fighting and then have the house champions fight each other in the finals. I just fast-forward over all that upper-decker/I miss my girlfriend shit anyway.
But that's me, and I kind of hate television anyway.

I guess I am naive I just never thought of TUF as an infomertial for new one new fighter, I thought of it as more of a compitition.

A what? Never mind, I actually agree with you. In my opinion either Mac should not have been on this show or they should have stepped up the level of competition overall. To be clear just because someone has had a shit ton of fights does not always mean that he is going to be way better than another guy. I really do not think it did in past seasons anyway. This season, however it was obvious that regardless of his experience Mac was a way better fighter than anyone he faced and everyone else on the show which means the argument can be made that he was a "ringer." Which I think he was.

I think they are doing a good job all around. and if i were the ufc i wouldn't use it as an actaul competion really, i'd have at least 5 guys in the house that you think could become something in the UFC and than fill the house with a 3-4 guys with a lot of potiential and the rest just guys who might be interestin on tv. and i think any guy that hasn't been seen on tv or the ppv's should get a spot on the show, crisis Fedor could be on the show. The show's purpose is to showcase the skill of the best fighters on the show, and if you think about it having 16 decent fighters is kinda a waste because there is only so much time to focus on a couple of the fighters.
This season wasn't so bad, George, Matt and Ben should all add depth to the WW division along with Tommy.
Mac i think could beat some guys in the top 10 of the LW, so he adds depth right away to the division and if he stays at Xtreme Couture expect big things from him.
Roman is a wildcard, he tapped Dorian pretty quickly, so its going to be interesting to see how his future turns out.

Come on though, Sakurai was the bigger fighter and Pride ended up pulling a fast one on Mac come weigh-in time.

No I wasnt necessarily referring to your quote, but just the general statement that shitty fighters are usually on TUF. I actually agree with you that the show is going downhill. Season 1 was the best, and nothing has even come close to it since in my opinion, and I feel the last 2 seasons have been the worst yet. I'd way rather see more training, more fights more MMA related things rather than "I need to leave to see my girlfriend" and everything else you mentioned.
But I also dont think that just because someone on the show runs through the whole competition, they dont belong on the show. Like I said of course they do. What would Forrest Griffin be if he didnt appear on TUF? Maybe 3 fights in the UFC, we might not even know who he is now. Diego Sanchez was barely tested on the show, with the exception of Koschek, does that mean he shouldn't have been on the show either? I dont know why people would think that fighters with skill dont belong on TUF, I dont know about you but I dont wanna see Bowman vs Wang type fights.

Season 5 has left us with some really good fighters imo.
If i was a good fighter like Mac and wanted to make a name for myself quick, i'd go on TUF.
If shitty fighters want to show up and make themselves look like tools, that's their problem.
