It was his own fault. Serra was pretty vocal about taking his time. What would have happened if he couldn't continue the fight - would it had been a "no-contest", or would George have won it due to an illegal blow?
I hated to see him lose a fight like that..........he is so much better than Tommy, and now I am not overly anxious to see the finals, knowing that the 2 best fighters are not fighting. I hope Mac destroys Tommy.

It'd be a No Contest. He submits due to an illegal blow.
And if he is the better fighter he didn't exactly show up before he got poked.

That's why decisions like that should not be left up to the fighter. The doctor, or corner should be the one making that call. 90% of all athletes aren't going to puss out. You spend, in this case, 6 weeks + thinking of nothing but making the finals, and then you get poked in the eye. Somehow I doubt that George's focus was anywhere but the as it was when he got the call to be on the show. "Win, win, win".
I'd have rep'd ya, but I got to spread some around!

It's just too bad that something like that had to happen and leave the opening for discussions like this. It is likely that the cut truly did cause him to eat those 2 right hands. Too bad.

I second that. I recently had to run a police obstacle course in 2 minutes 25 seconds, and the whole time my legs r burnin, then become numb, im breathing hard and nothing is on my mind but finish with an amazing time. When Im done, this guy says "Nice job great time, but listen to the rules. I was yelling "crossovers crossovers" and u werent listening". I reply "No offense man, but the adrenaline was pumpin, I couldnt feel my legs, and Im seeing 3 of you right now, so I couldnt really hear you at the time." I know its not the same circumstances, but it relates.
Regardless though, if Im Matt, and cornering a professional fighter, Im not really thinking "This guy doesn't know the rules, let me remind him one hundred times." I would assume he knows the rules. Plus, he even told him relax take your time. So I dont think it's Matt's fault.

yes your right here.and when adrenaline is flowing its hard to comprehend other things.
but any athelete that competes as a pro or other wise, should know all the rules before going and doing so.and i find it hard to beleive that he didnt know the rules.im sure the rules have been gone over before they get on to the show.
i know this is irrelavant, but i was on a motocross race team for awhile.and before every race they would take all the guys that were going to be racing and have a meeting, going over all of the rules, and making sure everyone understood them, before allowing them to race.
thats why i find it hard to beleive that he didnt know he could take the time

IMO, Speer wins with or without the eye poke. It seems to me that George does not like to be pressured or have something in his face. Speer and Hightower were both pressuring him and he was cracking. Difference is, he could take Hightower, I doubt he could take down Speer. George really did not impress me at all during the show. He KOed J-Roc, and looked tenative against Hightower and Speer, probably two guys on paper that weren't suppose to be good as J-Roc.

He needs to stop making excuses. It was a result of HIS OWN CHOICE to be ignorant. That makes it his responsibility.

Agreed.100%
ignorance is no excuse.
