you mean to tell me that I can poke a guy in the eye and kick him in the nuts and the have to come back out and fight me after 5 minutes no matter what?

sounds like incentive to poke someone in the eye, and kick them in the nuts to me.

The question is what happens if they can't continue after the 5? Does the gouger automatically win, do they go to the cards, or does the gouger automatically lose?

In MMA, if it's an accidental foul and one fighter can't continue then it's ruled a no-contest. But, I can't imagine someone's feelings being so hurt that they won't continue the fight...

In boxing, if it's an accidental foul and the fighter can't continue in the first four rounds then it's declared a no-contest; if it's after the first four rounds they go to the score cards.

Yeah, no shit. If I was poked in the eye as bad as George was, I would have used the full five minutes, and if I still wasn't 100%, I would have walked out of the cage. Call me whatever names you will, but I wouldn't continue a fight knowing that I have half my vision. I would rather be DQd as a result of being poked in the eye then continue.

And we really shouldn't call this a "poke" in the eye. I know it was unintentional, but it was more like "half a hand" in the eye.

Serra and BJM both told him he had 5 minutes. BJM kept asking him if he was sure, and even said you have plenty of time. George has balls to keep fighting, but he obviously was stunned with the eye. In situations like that, a guys corner should be able to make the call for the fighter. No fighter is, ok almost no fighter, is going to say "Nah, I need more time to tink about it". Guys have corner men for a reason, and that should be one of them.

in all honesty, he prolly didnt.. Ya so what if Serra said take your time? he prolly didnt hear him because hes fighting.. hes in the octagon.. fighting for a chance to go to the finals.. you cant tell me adreniline hasnt taken over by the time hes gotten poked in the eye.. who knows what was going through his head.. athletes in any sport have way too much to think about to really comprehend everything that is said to them.. just look at the Ravens and what happened to them vs the Pats.. you really think those actions were caused by sane human beings or by human beings that are being driven by adreniline?
