Nikolai Khabibulin signed with Edmonton, 4 years 3.75 mill. Maybe a year too long, but a good move I think. It will certainly give them some stability in goal.
Rumour had it Edmonton had a deal worked out with Ottawa to get Heatley, for Penner and Cogliano ( which I think would help both teams) but Heatley won't waive his no trade clause to go there.

AH...FUCK!!!!!!!! Florida just signed Scott Clemmensen, 3 years @ 1.2mill
Good for him, he deserves it, maybe a little more. He'll definatley get some more playing time being out of Jersey. But man I hate to see him go...he was the picture perfect backup, and he for sure saved our ass's last year while Marty was out!!!

That would have been a steal for Edmonton. They would have to include assets to get rid of Penner's contract. The going rate for a franchise player should be alot higher then that. In the end though I think it will work out for Ottawa. If he Heatley can not be a douche until the dead the return for him would be similar to what Anaheim got for Pronger. It could very well be more.

Not sure you could call Heatley a "Franchise" player. I love Dany Heatley, one of my fav. players. But he's a sniper, he needs to play with someone who can get him the puck.

My Devils just got rapped over the past couple days....First Clemmensen, then Gionta and Madden....Although Madden is just the type of player Chicago needs, this deal may just have put the Hawks over the hump...still not convinced Huet is the man to do it in goal though.

Things may look rough now, but New Jersey always seems to find a way back up. I'd wait and see before getting too concerned. Sometimes the players who end up giving you the edge are not the ones predicted to do so.

I call him a franchise player because he is good enough to build a team around.

As far as New Jersey goes, they'll bounce back. They have enough of an established culture of winning there that player want to play for the team. That and Lou Amarello is one of the best GM's.

Here's an article about the salary cap situation the 'Hawks will find themselves in due to the Hossa signing:

Hossa to Chicago Blackhawks May Mean Ticket Out for Kane or Toews | Bleacher Report

Oh, and Samuelsson is off to Vancouver.

I didn't read the article, but if it does mean the Hawks have to get rid of Toews and/or Kane 'cause of the Hossa signing.......essentially they would have traded Kane and Toews for Hossa.........not a trade any GM would have made. If it's true.....dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

Heatley is awesome, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn'y "build a franchise around him" He is a great 2nd guy, but not THE guy. I kinda compare him to Sundin...not in how they play, but rather, neither one is the man to be building a franchise with....maybe the best "2nd" guy in the league, but not a #1.

The trouble with losing Toews or Kane is that they are adored back in Chicago. I don't see how they think both will stay. Not to mention the youth factor. Not sure I would have signed Hossa with so little cap room either. Just doesn't seem to make long term sense. As I said before, I think they are looking at this as the best team they can put together for next season to try and get the Cup.

What's worse than signing Hossa is the retarded deal he gave Brian Cambell to be their 4their best defenseman. Getting paid Neidermayer type money for 20 average minutes per game
