Default Breathing?

I know, in a Fight you are suppost to breath in through you nose and out of your mouth. And i know you are suppost to train like you fight.

But it just seems that my cardio is so much better when i breath out of my mouth, is there anything i can do to change this. It is mostly notice able when i run i start off breathing in my nose and out of my mouth and about a mile into my run i catch myself breathing in my mouth and when i try to correct this it seems like it just drains all my energy.

Any Tips or suggestions?

I've never neccisarily heard that before but then again I don't fight. I would imagine it has to do with not wanting to have your mouth open because you'll get a broken jaw if you get hit.

Since your breathing is inherently going to be different when wearing a mouthpiece, I say run with it in. It will for you to breath like you would in a fight.

I think wearing a mouthguard will make it even harder, but that is the idea isn't it?

yeah it will probably suck for a few runs but I don't imagine it will be too bad once you get used to it. Although I wouldn't do interval sprints with it in, since they increase your VO2 max and the mouthguard might inhibit that.

I believe in anything you're supposed to breath in through your nose out your mouth; it may be different in a fight but I don't know for sure.

However, if you start out breathing properly during your run and then later not breathing properly, it means you're getting tired and your cardio isn't as good as you think it is. When you do some really hard cardio you breathe through your mouth because you're sucking in as much oxygen as possible. If you can run ten miles breathing properly you are in phenominal shape.

Well, I ran into a guy at the gym that saw I was having cardio problems. He suggested that I breathe in real quick through the nose in short bursts. I know it sounded kinda funny and I sound like a walrus in heat but it works. I get my wind back a lot faster when I'm rolling and its made a huge difference.

That's what I'm thinking. What I know to do is take in a very deep breath as if you are trying to make your lungs explode in order to rush as much O2 as you can into your bloodstream.

During a fight I found the following interesting:

Concerned that he might exhaust himself prematurely during his first Pancrase fight, Bas drew a large letter "R" on the back on each of his hands before going into the ring. The "R's" stood for "rustig" (Dutch for calm) and were intended as a reminder to pace himself. The measure proved to be unnecessary on that occasion when Rutten achieved a win by way of knockout in forty-three seconds (comparatively little of that time representing live fighting time), but he would go on to use the same aide de-memoir in several later matches.

Yeah an open mouth in a fight is a sign of tiring/gassing or that the nasal passage has been stopped from blood or some kind of damage. A lot more easy to knock someone out or cause more damage when the opponent has an open mouth. I'd say from expereince that with the more and more cardio you do trying to not open ur mouth the longer you can go without ever having to open ur mouth.

Honestly, I'd say quit worrying about how you breathe (other than for absorbing punishment by exhailing). Worry about getting your cardio in top shape. Great cardio will cause you to not get tired as quickly. As stated, once you get tired, that is when you start gasping through you're mouth. Normal, everyday breathing is through the nose, if you're in shape, you could go for a quick jog around the block and still breath through your nose.
