if your just starting to really train, you shouldnt be worried about fighting yeat. you really need a couple of years at the least to get your technique where it needs to be, and before you fight you must do the intense physical training while bringing all of your skills together to workout in a fight. but you dont really have to do that. if you really wanted to you could just train for a couple of months and get a fight, but you wont get the best results.

How long should I be training for each day and how many days per week?
Train hard 4-5 days a week. Keep 2 days for rest. I tend to just switch up days, day 1 and 2 BJJ + Wrestling,3 boxing/mt/sparring,4 cardio/sparring,5 cardio weights.
Any advice for how long I should train before I try to land an actual fight?
Years. 2 at least IMO.

You're gonna want to get some competition in before you go full MMA. Look (or ask your gym) about competing in submission/grappling tournaments, boxing/kickboxing "smokers", and even MMA or pankration smokers.

That's some good advice. There's a NAGA event coming up May 24 in Chicago that might do you some good. I'd say only compete if you've been doing BJJ for a few months or more though because even the novice guys up there are pretty decent. The plus side to grappling tournaments is you don't have to worry about getting your face fucked up or anything but you still get some experience competing in front of a crowd.

hey man, im telling you if you aren't the provider for the family/marriage..... you're wife will leave you. Im not being mean but ive seen this happen, that the women hate providing... and if you're in a deadbeat situation... even though you are doing what you love... will end up bringing about some relationship issues.....
IF I WERE YOU ... id stick with a job ... even if it isn't making as much as her..... and maybe ask for shortened shifts.. part time work .. and the rest of your day should be training...

Im personally gonna start off with nothing too major.. take a 2 a week course in Japanese shoot fighting and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu as well as Silats.. then after maybe a year or so of that im gonna move up to BJJ and Muay Thai, etc.. but personally, id be working out every day.. running, lifting, etc.. go into whichever school or camp etc in great shape off the bat.. makes things 100% easier plus reason why I wanna do Silats and JJJ before I do actual MT and BJJ is if you go into BJJ and MT with a basic idea of what your doing.. makes thing 100% easier as well..

Wrestling is a great base to have. No matter your age or skill level, a local high school would most likely be willing to let you get on the mats with some of the students, as well as teachers.
Back home in Wisconsin I had decided to start training with a few buddies of mine and I contacted my local high school wrestling coach and he welcomed me down there with open arms. Granted, not every facility is going to offer the same treatment, but it is certainly worth a shot.
Also, I do believe there is a Gracie school in the Chicago area that is fairly new, or relatively close to opening here in the coming months. I haven't heard much about recently, so you're better off looking into that at your own accord.

Let me tell you man its not easy by any means. I started after having 14 years in this bjj game and about the same boxing and I have years in muey thai ,wrestling and some judo. I thought man with all of this I will dominate. Then I go fight and got knocked the fuck out. So I would say yes train in bjj, muey thai, boxing, wrestling. I wouldn't fight til you have a minimum of 2 to 3 years and have won some tournaments grappling, boxing, etc. Then I would find an mma camp and train to fight to mix all your skills. But be prepared for a few things. You can and will get hurt, either in training or in a fight, cardio is your bestest friend, Your insurance won't pay bills for fight related or training related injuries. You could be permanently hurt and then you will need your wife to take care of you, because disability won't pay out for extreme risks. Now if you decide to do this be serious. 4-6 days a week training hard, eating right. And be prepared because the first time you get your bell rung it fucks with you. Put all you have into this and believ in yourself. I would recommend a dietician. I have one and I eat only what is put on a list for my meals each week. I feel awesome and my cardio for being this big is redicuolous. Also good luck man
