Hughes won't be going to WEC. the guys got like 1-3 fights left in him, he's not gonna spend them in the WEC. and Silva's way too good off of his back for hughes to beat him. filho(or philo if you're sundance) is a different story, though. after the sonnen fight, i think i'd pick hughes against him. only thing i really care about hughes doing before he retires is another fight with BJ and a showdown with Serra and at this point i don't see hughes really doing any other fights other than those.

I think its too little, too late for hughes. I mean the only reason it would be good for him is if he did cut weight and fought penn for the rubber match. Other than that hughes already said he only has a fight or 2 left in him. If he were to fight 4 to 6 more times, then I would say yes, cut weight. hughes would lose some of his frekish strength but I believe he would be in the top 3 lw with penn and sherk. But if he only has 1 or 2 fights left, then he should stay at ww and try to fight serra.

Hughes beat's Paulo.lol then By this point BJ is the LW champ.

BJ moves up two weight classes to fight Hughes at 185lbs.

BJ Penn is the first fighter to hold titles at LW and WW, then he fights GSP and is LW, WW, and MW.

The BJ beats Lyoto at lhw.

BJ has 4 belts in the UFC.

All Athletic commisions turn down a fight between BJ and the UFC HW champ of the time, and BJ once again walks away to go fight in Japan.

cutting to 155 he can't do and won't.

if it were possible atthis point in his career, he'd be taking on a division that is quicker, and when your getting older like hughes, the first thing that goes and becomes apparent when your getting older, is your quickness. He also would have to deal with Penn, whose better to fight at 155 and would beat Hughes.

I said this before, Hughes said he has 2 or 3 fights left in him.

If its 2 fights, than a fight with Serra and a fight with Penn are his 2 must fights.

If Hughes thinks he can fight a little longer, and moves to Middleweight, a move results in Hughes getting a fight and if he wins, likely faces the champion imo, not staying i think he'd deserve it however i'm sure he wouldn't have to win 3 fights at mw to get a title shot.

This is what i want to see. He fights Serra when Serra loses. He wins he moves to mw, fights whoever in a number 1 contender fight. If he keeps winning he could retire on top however, if he loses a mw fight, than he could always drop and fight BJ Penn at 170, for his last fight, win or lose i'd see him retiring than.

you know what tho, Penn could win all those fights. I really don't see Penn staying at lw for very long, by this time next year i don't think he'll be around in the lw division.

lets say he beats Joe Daddy in january
lets also say he beats Sean Sherk in may
and than who, maybe a showdown with Roger Huerta.

hell after his fight with Sherk he could move on.
If they get Gomi, maybe he'll stay to fight him at lw too.

The Yankees never sent Mickey Mantle back to the minor leagues just because he wasn't going to get anymore triple crowns or be the league leading home run hitter and the UFC isn't going to send Hughes to the minors either.

WEC has a couple of good guys toward the top but overall they are the minor leagues. Hughes would retire first. No consideration given whatsoever.

He says he's got 2 or 3 fights left in him. I don't see it. Whether its at 155, 170, or 185. The only match up I'd like to see him in at 155 would be against Sherk, but that would just be a fight between two oversized lightweights that should be at 170 anyway. Hughes was awesome in his prime, but he didn't even look like the same fighter against GSP last time. I think GSP will beat Serra, then Hughes will fight Serra. If he's the same Hughes that showed up against GSP, that fight could go either way. But win or loose, I think he's done after that.

Oh God no, Hughes matches up terribly with Silva. He would never get anywhere near close enough for him to shoot and Silva would KO his ass in a second from the clinch. Hughes is just too small and too short for Silva. Silva would keep his ass at bay with his reach advantage and pepper him with shots. He'd also own the clinch (which is where Hughes gets most of his take downs). It would look like Silva/Franklin 1 except more brutal since Hughes is 5 or 6 inches shorter than Franklin -- easier for Silva to target his head with those knees. Even if Hughes did get on top, he doesn't have the best track record against BJJ black belts. Anderson would sub, sweep, or get back on his feet pretty quickly IMO.

No, Hughes best chance in the UFC is at WW.

I can;t imagine how hard it would be for Matt to cut to 155, hes a strong 170 so he would have to cut muscle mass.
