Remember it was Melvin who started running his mouth again really for no reason, Joe had enough sense and class to not let it bother him, but obviously Joe and Rich are not the same person and Rich took offense...
But I'm sorry...
"Go learn JuJitsu Melvin" had me laughing for 10 minutes... I can't say it looked good for the sport, but it was good, for me, to see someone put Melvin in his place verbally and physically...
Nothing good comes of exchanges like these, ultimately you're suppose to be a professional regardless of how the other guy is acting...
easier said than done though... hell Melvin gets under my skin and I'll never meet the guy...

MG talked shit the whole time. Rich just gave a little back imo. Rich really is a good guy. he is a local from La and has done ALOT for mma in La. Mg is a cuntbag and does nothing positive for mma.

The that said this is not Ballet is right. Shit talking, thugs, assholes, are all apart of the sport. IMO most people wouldn't want to watch it if everybody was always respectful and nice to each other.
A fighter needs a certain amount of distain for other fighters to even get into this sport. They need a killer instint to to go in there and give it their all.
Point is, you need someone you love to hate to make it interesting and it sells tickets.

Couldn't disagree more with every single point you're making...
I don't need shit talking or hype to enjoy a fight, never have... I became a ufc fan by blindly looking up older mma fights on the internet with having no idea who was who or what had been said prior... the fact that they could shake hands or embrace one another after a fight was a big part of making me a fan (Randleman vs Fedor comes to mind).
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not naive enough to think that hatred and stupidity doesn't sell fights, it does... and has in boxing for a long time and will continue to do so...
But this fan can do without it... and I don't see it as a necessary evil either... some fighters just handle their business and keep it professional... it's not a matter of hating the guy or not...
Those usually happen to be the best fighters in their divisions coincidentally...

I thought the crotch chop was funny as well as the wave good bye....but continuing it during the interview was uncalled for.

I ended up missing the clementi/guillard fight, i've seen it since then but it starts before the staredown and ends at the crotch chop. Your saying guillard flipped rich off before the fight? If so I guess the chop was a little bit more justified. I still dislike both their actions though.

Yeah, as soon as he got into the Octagon he walked to the center and gave Clementi the double bird....Clementi started to pull at his shorts near his crotch, as if to say, oh yeah, suck this.

Actually, people who hate MMA and want to restrict licensing and venue approval care quite a lot, and will use any little drama they can rake up to fight the spread of the sport into a more legitimate place in society.

No. Hendo and Rampage are friends, and they sold tickets. If you don't have talent, you need drama...but if you are a professional, you should have the talent, or work towards getting it.

Point is, bullshit melodrama like that gets MMA compared to human cockfighting in the mainstream media, and is used as support when some idiot wants to outlaw it in Australia, or compare it to the NFL for some stupid reason.
I don't care about trash talking, I pretty much ignore it. But the point is, this got to a point where Melvin needed to be restrained after the decision. Granted, Melvin obviously has a head full of snakes, but Clementi could have laughed it off and said "learn some JJ Melvin" without all the repressed homoerotic posturing, and nonsense probably wouldn't have gotten to the lame "teen-kegger-soap-opera-dude-hold-me-back" level that it did. Or if it did, Melvin would have obviously been beyond the norm. As it stands, you have two stupid [and C-level, at best] fighters behaving unprofessionally in a huge PPV...somewhere neither of them deserve to be again.
If I liked melodrama, I'd watch reality television or that desperate housewives shit my wife watches. But I want to be able to see a variety of fights from a variety of venues, and I hope for professional behavior from the professional fighters.

I don't have problem with shit talkers.
But Melvin can't back it up. Ever. And Rich isn't some hot shot either - They're both fuckin' weark, in my opinion. If you're going to talk shit, fine. Do it. Hype it up, sell yourself, self promote (even though, I must admit, the shit talking era has gotten old. It's ALWAYS about selling tickets, and I just don't think people buy it anymore) - BUT BACK IT UP.
Bye bye Melvin.

i cant think that they would make this fight to sell tickets. I agree that after the crotch chop and wave bye bye he should have just left it at that. but its funny how a middle of the road fighter can look godly against melvin when they get to the ground.

I agree to some degree. But there comes a point where you have to perform to back up the shit you talk. Like with Melvin, its to the point where he's got to stop talking shit because he makes himself look stupid when he loses.
