LW: Sherk vs. Fioravanti at 155
I was disappointed they gave Diego such an easy fight when it was booked--or what I initially saw as an easy fight--but I was impressed with Luigi's performance. He's improved a great deal since I watched him fight Fitch, I'll need to DL the Cummo fight, I'm not sure how I missed it.
I think he needs to put the fork down and make the cut to 155...he's got very good TDD, good striking with heavy hands and has improved a great deal. At a bloated 170, his cardio impressed me, I think he's got nowhere to go but up if he drops to LW.
I'd like to see him fight Sherk, because I think he's a great matchup, with minimally an even shot to win.
Thoughts?

Ya he could be a lot more lean and probably make 155, he isn't that tall or anything. If he retains his power then he could beat a couple guys on pure strength, and takedown defence is essential at that weight class, but I still don't see him making any waves.

That's a given, isn't it?
kidding.
a little bit.
I don't see him winning a belt, but I see him making a bigger splash than he is at welter. I just think he's a bad matchup for Sherk, specifically.

I like Luigi a lot. Tough guy, but...
The lightweight division is stacked. I don't know where he'd fall under top competition that, in my opinion, are better fighters than the welterweights. Not better in the sense that if the lightweight division fought the welterweight division in their respective wieghts - The lightweights would win. I'm talking talent wise.
I don't like Luigi's striking as much as everyone else seems to. He can get a bit sloppy, and isn't really sharp or particularly fast. To his credit, he's got a solid fuckin' chin, and makes for great fights every time out, but he'd lose.
On the ground? Again, the talent in the lightweight division is so well versed, not just in striking, but all around. Pellegrino, Diaz, Tavarez, and a lot of other guys not named BJ Penn would submit him.
He could probably win some here and there, but not against top or midtier competition. Too deep a talent pool, especially if he has a hard time making weight...

Sherk beats him at 55 or 70 IMO.
And I was VERY VERY impressed with Luigi.

I'm not talking about the LW division, I'm talking about Sherk, specifically...that's why it's in dream matches.
If Diego couldn't at WW, I don't think Sherk at LW would take him down easily, and sloppy or not, he's got better striking than Sean and far heavier hands.
I think it would be very competative.

Yea, but Sherk would push for the take down, much, much harder than Sanchez did.
Sherk would get it, he would take some solid shots for it, but Sherk gets the take down IMO.
