damn you had to go there. I would have to say anderson if its on the feet just due to reach and size advantage. But if it goes to the ground I think BJ has it. I hate picking fighters I really respect and admire

Penn wouldn't be able to take Silva down and Anderson would tear him up standing. This one wouldn't be close and BJ would end getting KO'd for the first time IMO.

I think that BJ is top three p4p (and I can't order those 3) but so is Anderson IMO. Silva is just too big for BJ. It's a bad match up for him. It would take someone with the skill set of Fedor to beat Anderson.

**edit to add** I can't wait till Palma reads this thread. (cowers in fear) lol

I could see Anderson ko'ing BJ, but I could also see BJ submitting Anderson. This is a tough one to call and gives me chills just thinking about it.

you guys gotta remember that Anderson is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu.. he trains with Nog who is a master on the ground too.
and everyone was saying that Hendo would give Anderson a run for the belt once the hit the ground but it didnt really work that way did it? same with Lutter and Marquardt.

a 185 pound version of BJ would beat Anderson soundly, but I worry about the size.... Penn might not be able to get it to the ground which the strength difference. It would also be hard for Penn to take punches from such a bigger guy

If they were both at 185 Penn would win for sure, he has a much better p4p skill set. He has better wrestling, BJJ, and at 185 I don't think Anderson could KO him.

BJ Penn's bjj is on a completely different level than Anderson Silva. They are both black belts, but BJ Penn without a doubt is the better BJJ guy and all around ground fighter.

Yeah but he's giving up 40-45 pounds and 5 inches of height. He needs to be significantly better skill wise to beat Anderson. I don't see how he can get through Anderson's striking range to get him to the ground. Even if he does, I think Anderson would be able to stand up. Size and strength can nullify a certain amount of a skill advantage (we saw that in GSP/Serra II) and I don't think Penn has enough of a skill advantage to dominate or control Silva on the ground. He could sub him or TKO him if he got it on the ground but more likely than not he would have to get him down a few or even several times to pull something off. Anderson is likely to stand up or endure to another round. I just don't see Penn getting multiple takedowns before Silva KOs him.

Silva with his reach and stand up would beat Penn in about 3 or 4 rounds. Penn has no business fighting above 170 in my book. He is a true 155 pounder. He could move to 175 but anymore than that would slow Penn down and affect his cardio.
