Thiago Alves vs Diego Sanchez
Now that it appears Thiago has stepped into the top 5 at WW.....does he have a chance against Diego?
Post your thoughts.

Thiago is a huge WW, and i didn't think he would have such a size advantage against Hughes.
same thing happened to me when watching Maynard vs Edgar. I had no idea Maynard was a big LW.
anyway, i'll go with Alves, but wouldn't be surprised at all if Diego pulls off a win.

Same thing happens to Diego that happen to Hughes. If he can't take it down he gets beat up.
Alves showed very good take down d imo against hughes, and Diego's wrestling still isn't as good as Matt's imo.
I think Thiago takes it 3rd round ko.

Hughes got some takedowns dude dont forget that.. and Hughes got stuffed I believe twice or three times? I think one time he got the takedown but Thiago quickly got back up.. and yeah Technique-wise and so on and so on Hughes is still a better wrestler.. but Diego is younger.. hes gonna be faster, in better shape then Hughes is now.. plays a factor.
I would cheer for Thiago.. think he can TKO Diego but.. Diego gave Fitch hell so its tough to say.. hes a better grappler then Thiago and Hughes.. his BJJ game is pretty damn good so its a lot different having a younger, black belt in Diego Sanchez on top of you.. whos also a HUGE WW vs having an older, out of prime Matt Hughes on top of you.. in prime Matt Hughes had some slick submissions and GnP.. out of prime Matt Hughes is just a LnP wrestler.. in prime Diego Sanchez has an entire arsenal on the ground.. and his submissions are better.. I think he subs Alves to be honest.

I don't believe that Diego's grappling or takedowns are that much better then Karo's, when they fought Karo seemed to have better everything then Diego but lost the fight due to cardio. I think Diego would be able to get Thiago down once or twice but not finish him, and Thiago would KO him on the feet.

I agree with Dork Diego has had trouble in the past when he cant get his oppenent down. Diego has never been Knocked out but I dont think he has fought or got cracked by anyone with as much power as Thiago I would say Alves ko's him with what else but a knee probably late 2nd early 3rd

lets not forget that matt hughes' standup is total shit and nowadays all he does is take poor telegraphed shots from the outside when attempting to take someone down.
diego at least has DECENT stand-up to set his shot up and lets be honest diego now is a much better grappler than hughes.
diego could definitely get thiago to the ground, and once he does he has a huge advantage.
