Other point, Trigg took Hughes' back and he's not nearly the caliber of Diego on the ground. So, I don't think you have to be as good as Penn to get his back. You damn well better be strong enough to finish, though.

Yea, I have no idea why Hughes' cardio would ever come into question. The guy is a cardio freak and may have the best cardio this side of Sherk and perhaps Franklin.
Also you have to put the whole Trigg thing into context. Trigg kneed Hughes in the balls twice, then rocked him on the ground. Thats more a fluke, then Trigg's actual skill. That was after Hughes was on the ground, Trigg was not has back and transisationed to Hughes' back. Penn was on his back then took Hughes' back, thats pretty much the difference.

Diego can take Hughes back.. why are we even comparing him to Penn? its not a matter of skill.. its a matter of style.. and Diego is very good at sweeps, and transitions.
In Hughes prime, he would of probably beat Diego.. but hes past his prime now.

I am just wondering were all these people are sayiing he is past his prime. I can understand that he has lost 2 of his last 3 fights. But in the same token those were against GSP who is considered the number 2 P4P fighter in the world right now. Thats like saying Franklin is past his prime because he lost to Anderson Silva twice. I think Hughes still has more then enough in the tank to beat anyone in the WW division whose nickname isnt "Rush."
I think he will prove that too in June when he submits Alves in the first.

I think the poor showing (even though it was a win) against Lytle is what is going more against Hughes than his losses to GSP IMO.

I do not remember him saying anywhere he was past his prime. I know he has said he only wants to fight a few more times. But I do not think that should be confused with him saying he is past his prime. PBF says he only has a few fights left in him but I doubt you could find anyone that says he is past his prime.
Hughes has fought just about 50 fights. Thats more then 95% of people in MMA. Think about it, Couture has fought longer then Hughes, but Hughes has doubled his fight total. Thats alot of fighting, which is why I think he is talking about hanging up the gloves.

Diego by submission. way too good at grappling for Hughes to handle. he'll sweep, get on top, pound then pass the guard, and sub Hughes.

Diego would probably win by decesion...Hughes wouldn't do shit if he took diego down...plus diego could sweep hughes and would beat hughes on the feet...
either way i don't see much happening for hughes if he takes diego down...unfortunately for hughes, nowadays most fighters are really good defensively off of their back, diego being one of them.
its getting to the point where you need more than strength and good wrestling to be able to GNP someone to a win...
and both fighters have really good cardio so why did anyone ever bring that up?
