matt serra might not be the striker that alves is, but he has way more power in his hands then alves does. alves is a good striker because of his kicks, his boxing is only slightly above average and i think its not much better or any better then gsps personally. alves was getting destroyed by chris lytle before the cut and i know he would have lost if the fight continued. people are giving alves WAY to much credit here. GSP would just take him down and destroy him worse then we've ever seen.

IMO alves would take the worst beating of his life.

the kid brings up the Alves/Fitch fight, but says Thiago got destroyed. Thiago was on top of Fitch, but got caught with an upkick and finished.
the kid says GSP can stand with Thiago. haha.
and then GSP will easily beat Thiago. because anyone has ever easily beaten Thiago.
and Thiago only has good kicks? doesn't have good boxing?

I don't have a problem with you at all...but why do you whine non-stop? you don't have to criticize everyone and say mean shit to people just to try to get your point across...

I personally think it is more of a mis-match for Alves on the ground with GSP then for GSP to stand with Alves...

I think if it stayed standing though, that Thiago's leg kicks would fuck GSP up pretty bad...but the problem with that is that GSP won't keep it standing...

I see GSP softening alves up with some gnp and finishing by sub in the 3rd.

your sitting here trashing other peoples post about not knowing shit about muaythai and boxing but you keep on saying alves is so much better then gsp standing...wow..

gsp has way better footwork and is alot lighter on his feet then thiago...thiago has heavy kicks sure..but gsp has quicker kicks with longer limbs and puts combos together great...so yeah gsp can stand with thiago...but i doubt he does..because gsp can easily take thiago to the ground and pound his ass till a tko or till hge gets a subb...gsp gets tagged by serra and tkoed once and all of the sudden gsp cant strike?? gsp stood with penn 3 rounds and imo penn has better hands then thiago...

gsp pounds out thiago in 3 rounds...ohh and another thing is gsp is way bigger then thiago..

I disagree completely, I think Alves has better standup then GSP.. I dont rate GSPs footwork very high he isnt a very good mover and I dont rate his combos high either.. he seems to enjoy throwing those high leg kicks without actually settin them up.. he reminds me a lot of Rich Franklin on the feet.. just power punches after power punches.. no real jabs, or set-ups. He stands pretty still on the feet too and definently lacks head movement.. Alves seems to be a lot more fluid, and comfortable on his feet.. just my opinion. I dont think Alves has better hands, but I dont think GSP has good hands either.. and Alves Muay Thai is superior.. his KO power with his knees is better, and hes just a lot more comfortable at using it then GSP is.. I think Alves moves good enough that those random high leg kicks wont be a factor.

I agree that over-all, alves is probably a better striker, at least in theory ill give him that. i never said gsp had better standup then alves. i just think the reason alves standup is better is because of his kicks. in my mind their punching is about equal and i even think gsp might be a little better at it. but overall thiagos kicks are way faster and he has better knees too.

with that being said, it wouldnt suprise me at all if gsp came out and beat alves on the feet, he is very fast and has good in and out movement, he uses his reach and his inside kicks, and sometimes hell mix it up and throw a superman punch or something un-expected. combined with his ability to shoot and take u down at any time, it makes his standup pretty dangerous and hard to get a read on.

this is a fight id definatly like to see, and probably will see, in the future.
