if they had gone to the ground alves would have been outmatched by all those guys. he destroyed hironaka on the feet. he beat lytle with a cut, he was lucky because he was losing that fight, which was also a standup battle. he manhandled desouza on the feet on way to TKO and threw him around a bit.. He KO'd karo in a short standup fight. Correct me if im wrong but i do beleive those were all primarily standup fights.
the only 2 fights that alves was on the ground that i can think of is the fight with jon fitch and spencer fisher. he got tkod by fitch and subbed by fisher. and fischer is not really known for his bjj. Ive never seen anything outa alves that indicates an above average ground game.
so therefor i think he loses to fitch again if they fight. fitch has the ability to take him down, and he has a better ground game to control him. Unless his ground game and TK'd defense has rapidly improved i cant see him winning this rematch at all.

So why werent these fights taken to the ground?

why u asking me questions in which you already know the answer?
desouza couldnt get the take down, he pretty much got man handled. desouza has bad takedowns.
lytle wanted to stand up with thiago. lytle was winning until he got cut. i still think it was a BS stoppage.
you know how karo is, he just does what he does. hell try and throw strikes or take you down. he just ended up getting KO'd which was funny to me. Karo isnt exactly the best takedown fighter anyways. His judo throws rarely lead to top control and he doesnt do them very often.
hironka is was pretty much the same as desouza, he was outpowered and couldnt even come close for takedowns.
I still dont understand your point. Fitch has better takedowns then all of these people.

I could see it going either way.
Nothing about Fitch impresses me though...

Of course they aren't bad, but they aren't near the same level as Fitch.

dude leedogg talks all this shit but he is fucking retarded.
in their first fight, which actually happened, it ended when Thiago got caught from the BOTTOM, by an UPKICK. that means Thiago didn't get destroyed by Fitch's wrestling
you haven't even watched any of Thiago's fights i bet, and i know for a damn sight you don't know anything about MMA outside of records and what your completely ignorant analysis of a fight tells you. the Fisher fight was Thiago's debut almost 3 years ago now. Thiago has gotten infinitely better since then. you can see it in the way he fights, his composure and the ease he manages to get up after a takedown attempt. he trains with Marcelo Garcia and over 18 black belts at ATT, i think he knows some fuckin grappling
you dont know shit about wrestling, BJJ, and definitely don't know shit about standup, so your analysis is unnecessary and a detriment to the level of our conversation. you can go now.
and Tony De Souza is a great wrestler. he taught my jits coach wrestling.

I agree, but what Cal HOFer do you know has bad takedowns right? Leedogs comment is insulting.

He just doesn't know any better. He probably just doesn't know who DeSouza is.
