How do you know GSP could have easily had Serra's back? Until you get both hooks in and get your chest on a Black Belt's back, only then would he have had Serra's back.
Serra was going to get him in a knee-bar.
How do you know Serra was going to get him in a knee bar? AH HA!!!! Palma reveals his true colors and at long last it is revealed...
HE'S A WITCH!!!!
Back to the topic... Standing favors Anderson, Wrestling favors GSP, and BJJ favors Silva.
I can see GSP getting caught trying to get Silva down (timed knee)... I can also see GSP pressuring Silva and working his GnP from the bottom, maybe even pulling off a submission (RNC)... but I can see Silva catching him with an up-kick as well.. or... sweeping position...
Right now it's so close to call it's almost impossible. I think the one thing everybody agree on is Silva doesn't seem like he'd have an issue knocking out GSP should they stand...

Yeah I'm really jumping to conclusions here... why do you think Serra was exposing his back for? He's just that shitty at Jiu-Jitsu that he doesn't know any better?
He had one side protected by the cage so he only had to defend the other side... he wanted GSP to try and get his back and then his knee would be in perfect position for a rolling-knee bar.
Why do you think GSP gave the back up the first time? Because he felt Serra grab his leg to try for a knee-bar.
And it's not called "a sweeping position" it's called a "sweep".

I left the "s" off of position... I know what a sweep is... I was eluding to Anderson sweeping or switching positions..
GSP never went for the back or the hooks to give it up, it wasn't in his gameplan... he did what many fighters should do if they can get superior positioning on someone with superior grappling and that's work damage instead of submissions.

I don't understant what you are saying... GSP did go for Serra's back in the first but gave it up immediately when Serra reached between his legs and grabbed GSP's knee. And having the back is much more superior position then standing shoulder to shoulder up against the cage.
And of course he should work damage and not submissions... what did you think my point was?
A sweep is not a position... it's a transition was my other point.

Not when you're inflicting ground and pound, you run the risk of hitting the back of the head, from his position he could inflict knees (which ended the fight) and shots to the side of the face/ear... even from that position he tagged the back of Serra's head a few times...

Once again, I used the word sweep as a general verb, replace it with "switch" or "swap" and you should get my meaning.

Sorry man, but aren't going to convince me being shoulder to shoulder is a superior position then having someone's back. The difference is that all Serra had to do is stand up and face GSP. He didn't because GSP would have cleaned his clock if he had straightend up, but Silva isn't going to have a problem transitioning to the clinch from that position.
Getting hit in the back of the head can happen in almost every position. I've seen people get hit in the back of the head when they are facing eachother standing... it shouldn't keep anyone from trying to gain a better position. GSP didn't take Serra's back because that is what Serra was trying to get him to do in order to bait him for a knee-bar.
I really don't get what your argument is all about, you seem to be all over the place with this one.

GSP vs A. Silva a wash?
Does the saying that a good big man can beat an equally talented but smaller man come into play if GSP does jump to 185 to face Anderson Silva? I was thinking about this fight while watching GSP dominate Serra again, and thought to myself that the size difference between the two fighters (GSP and Serra), would be similar to the difference in size between GSP and Silva, and if the good big man would beat the equally talented smaller man.
You have GSP who is roughly 5'10" tall (5'10.5" per his website) and fights at 170lbs, and probably walks around between fights at 185-190 lbs. Then you have Anderson Silva who is 6'2" tall and fights at 185lbs, but probably walks around at 200-205 lbs between fights.
Now are these two fighters equal in MMA skill, cardio, strength? I would say in their respective weight classes... yes! But if GSP were to jump to 185 lbs would they still be equal? This is hard to say, GSP at 170 lbs is crazy cut up, and a cardio freak, on the other hand Silva in no where near as cut at 185, has a more lanky build, and we really don't know how good his cardio is, because none of his fights have been going past 2 rounds.
So does GSP have a real chance to beat Silva at 185lbs? Not a punchers chance, but a real legit chance at winning this fight? Or does GSP's performance suffer fighting at a heavier weight? Would GSP still be quick enough to get those take downs to control the fight? Or would the long arms and missile like strikes of Silva be too much for GSP to deal with?
Only time will tell, but let me know your opinion....

I think it is very likely that you are right! But man it would be hard to count out GSP...
