Yeah i think thats part of it, and also the stye of full Muay Thai itself would be pretty hard to beat in the hands of someone like Buakaw who could clinch and knee most of his opponents, causing a good bit of damage.
Probably trying to even up the competion itself though as even people with other styles like Andy Souwer's Shootboxing, he cant use the Knees in the clinch which he practices either, amongst other people.
I think no elbows is a limitation of Muay Thai, i mean if you want to find out which striker is the best in the world, why would you remove a top weapon of a particular fighting style?
I think it all works out in the end anyway as most of the fighters are used to it now and its still exciting.
