MMA is becomming less interesting to me...
I used to wrestle like 13 years ago when I was in highschool and I have often gone back to my old highschools to coach and work out with the teams.
I have also worked out with both of my brother since then (both of whom were good wrestlers) and I have also sparred in submission wrestling here and there.
But since mid June I have been training BJJ at least twice a week, but on average about 3 times. The past month I have been training BJJ 3 nights a week and then training nogi on sat and sun.
I am so into it now that I must say MMA just isn't as interesting to me as it once was. I still love MMA, but watching people fight just ins't nearly as fun as actually training first hand.
It could also just be the last few lackluster UFC cards or the whole Randy/Fedor/UFC shit that has inundated us the past few months.
I don't know why I am sharing this, but there it is.

I can see what you mean; I haven't been watching nearly as much MMA as I used to recently, and I think it started when I started training hard again. I've been watching more grappling and going to more local events but the "big league" has become less interesting to me. It might be that there's been some lackluster UFC PPVs (plus I don't like all of the drama in the UFC) but in the end I find myself focusing more on my training. Maybe that's a good thing? Still, I'm without a doubt the biggest MMA nerd at my gym

Hehe, I'm still the one who brings the big news there but usually only when someone bugs me for it, and I don't discuss PPVs as much as I used to (yesterday was an exeption when my training partner started complaining over UFC 78). But like I said... maybe this is a sign that we're focusing more on our training

wow....do we all feel this way?....lol
I took interest to grappling after getting into the UFC and Pride......Now everyone under the sun claims to be in love with MMA...so maybe I just wanted to do something out of the spotlight so to speak....
There are so many leagues and so many tv stations jumping on the bandwagon....I think its only natural that its becoming less appealing...

I don't really care about the whole mainstream media thing... I first watched UFC 1 with a couple of buddies who'd gotten hold of it on VHS back in the day (when I was training greco and judo) and I though it was kind of cool/kind of meh. Then when I was 16 and started training ju-jutsu a buddy showed me the Pride FC 2004 Final Conflict and I was hooked! After that I looked up every Pride event, and when HERO'S started I watched that too. All I remembered from the UFC was "Eh, two guys dominating all of the others" so I never checked it out until about 1½ years ago. Back when I started watching Pride people were freaked out when I told them about it. Now more people know and it's just gotten legal here in Sweden so I'm a happy guy! Still, I don't enjoy the UFC as much (like I said, too much drama) and I'm finding it more exiting to watch the independant local orgs than the big leagues. So maybe it's not that I'm less into MMA but more that I'm into the local scene more. We'll see what happens with M-1 (from what I've understood it was the premier European org... not that that's saying much seeing how MMA is frowned upon in many european countries) but right now I'm just not that into it anymore.
The TUF noobs at my gym are making it tough on my patience though, I will say that...

Well I must say i'm on the total opposite side of this spectrum fellas. I've been watching UFC since Vitor Belfort became my hero beating up guys 70 lbs heavier than him w/ ease. Now that i've been training consistently for the past few months I find myself watching fights w/ a student's perspective more so than just a fan. I definitely watch how BJJ guys deal w/ strikers & wrestlers, and what works best... and what i've seen not so successful.
The drama going on w/ UFC has gotten old, but I pay it no mind. The Pride drama was old and I paid it no mind.
Now i'm able to anticipate seeing the best fight the best, and that's when the best are at their best lol.

Now dont get me wrong.....I still like MMA.....and Im not the type of person to dislike it solely because something turns mainstream.......
I think you guys put it better......too much drama!!..
I still watch everything.....I just look at it through a grapplers viewpoint now......
Do you guys notice that a bunch of MMA guys just plain suck at jiu-jitsu??...even with my small experience in bjj...I feel like I sit there and am like....do this...thats wide open....dont ever do that, are yo retarded!!....lol....you know what I mean......It baffles me that people that devote their entire lives and training to MMA wouldnt have a better knowledge of the submission game....is this just ignorance...stupidity?
(and yes, I know its easier said then done when youre in the ring and punches are flying at your face....)

I know what you mean; I do the exact same thing. But a guy at my gym told me that he tried rolling with strikes added and it was almost impossible to get anything. As soon as you tried to posture up you ate a bunch of shots.
Also, some guys just don't translate very well to MMA and never really get into the fight. All of this aside though, I completely agree with you! A lot of these guys need to brush up on their grappling...

I'm definitely in the same boat. When I first started out all I was into was mma. Then recently I've started to transfer my obsession from mma to grappling with a gi. Whether it be judo or bjj, the gi game has most definitely taken the top spot from mma.
I think part of this is due to the unfortunate difference between people that train with a gi, and those who study mma. Hopefully further down the road mma will become as acceptable as traditional martial arts.
