How often do people have luck sweeping you from this position? It seems like there's a couple parts of the move that you have to bring your base a fair distance off the ground like when you're switching legs pinning their arm.

I am very rarely swept from this position. The most common spot that I lose position is when I am creating space to get my knee across their arm to pin it. A very explosive person can push up and into you while shrimping and will get out.
The solution to that (for me) is that I don't use that entry very often. More commonly, I start from mount. I will actually transition to mount, just for the purposes of transitioning back to side control. It's adds a few extra steps, but I find that it's still higher percentage for me.
So, from mount, I pin the left arm with my right arm, almost like you are going for an Americana. Then, replace your right arm with your right knee. Just like setup for triangle from mount.
But from here, instead of going to the triangle I get the underhook on the left side. Then I move my left foot across their body and transition straight into side control.
It's basically identical to how you would transition to mount from side control, but completely backwards.
Once I have this position locked though, I almost never lose it. The rare exception is someone much larger/stronger/more explosive than me. But aside from that, it's very rare.
It is also a good control position. You don't have to force the pace, you can relax and let the other person burn energy. It really is a great control position.
The part where you are crossing your feet seems like it would be a good time to sweep, but keep in mind that the person on bottom cannot see what your feet are doing. They have no sense of what your legs are doing other than that they are pinning their arm. So very often people do not buck regardless.
But even when they do, you will base out just like normal. It's a little weird-feeling, because your feet are crossed, but it still works. The more common problem is that you are not tight enough with pinning their arm, and they manage to get it loose. This happens from time to time.
But as far as being swept, in my experience it is quite rare. Not impossible, but rare. Especially as you get accustomed to the position and get a feel for the balance involved.
I can't stress the underhook enough. This is where I find most of my problems. It is really easy to get really focused on your legs and what they are doing, and completely lose track of the underhook.
You can do everything 100% right, and if you don't have that underhook pinned you will still lose this position.
Two extra submissions from here that work well for me:
N/S Choke
Brabo choke from a failed underhook.
If you do fail to keep the underhook pinned, or if you are just overpowerd, let them sit into you and get the underhook. Then just counter with a brabo choke. Works like a charm.
