My 2nd BJJ Class
So today I had my second BJJ Class. I was still sore from the class Monday, but I made myself go anyway. I got there at about 10:50 and went ahead and signed up with the Gym for a year.
There were more people in this class than there were in Monday's class but I think it was a better class. We also had a differant insturctor today. Again we started the same way we did last time with streaching and warming up by running, schuffling, doing high knees, and lunges around the mat. Then we did "rolls" (I guess that's what you call them) where we would start a one end of the room and roll to the other, we did them forward and backwards. Then we did some excersises where we where on our back moved side to side all the way down the mat (any idea of what this is called?)
Then we paired off into groups and I was paired with a blue belt that was a good bit bigger than me. He was a very nice guy and took his time and made sure I got the Techniques down right. We went over some takedowns and submissions from half guard and side control. This took a little over an hour and I learned alot.
Then it was time to roll, there were only 4 other people that stuck around to do some rolling. So we rolled each guy once with everyone running the clock once. We did 4 min rounds.
So here we go, I rolled first with a guy (White belt) that was about my size and maybe had some weight on me. I was pretty confidnet going in and thought I would do pretty well. Boy was I wrong, I was tapping about 50 seconds in.lol But we kept rolling and he probably tapped my twice more.
I was so fucking winded after that I decided that this would be a perfect time for me to "work" the clock.lol So I had the next four mins to recover.
The next guy I rolled with was the blue belt that had been helping me earlier. Needless to say he kicked my ass pretty bad and made me tap about 3 times or so.lol And that was just the first 3 mins, I was so gassed after that, that he showed me how to defend everything that he had just tapped me with. But I made it.lol
Finally I rolled with another blue belt that is a monster. He is about 6'2 about 230 or so. He was very nice but I'm pretty sure he was trying to prove a point (I don't blame him it was good for me.lol) He was toying with me for about the first Min or so, holding me down and just smuthering me from half guard, finally he pulled a arm triangle. It was so funny, I was so tired and I knew what he was doing, I said, "This is going to be an arm triangle, isnt' it?" He proceeded to tap me and then say "Yea, that was an arm triangle.lol) We started again and he got side control and this guy felt like he was 500 lbs on top of my chest, and his Gi was right in my face and I couldn't breath for shit. I tried and tried to sweep, give my back, get on my side, just getting his Gi away from my mouth was impossiable.lol So I Tapped like a little bitch from being in side control. It is probably the first submission ever pulled where the guy(him) got the other guy(me) just from maintaining side control.lol
Once I tapped from that there was still about a min. left out of the four. I sat on my knees until the round ended trying to catch my breath, but I just couldn't.
Then I went a puked and that marked the end of class. Everyone was very supportive and helped me anyway that I asked.
That's 2 for 2 in the puking department. Hopfully eventually I'll make it through class with out puking.lol
But I fucking hated every minute of being sub'd, of being gassed, of being made to tap out from the most dangerious sub of all "Side Control". But I guess that is a good thing and it will motavate me to work harder and to improve not only in my BJJ and Conditioning, but my Diet and other aspects of my health.
Right now as I type this I feel like I have been in a fucking Car wreck.lol My Neck is sore, my arms hurt like hell from being streched way's there not suppost to. I have more mat burn. And I'm almost positive that it will all hurt even worse tomorrow.lol
But I'll be right back at it on Friday(If I can still walk.lol)
Hope you guys find this ammusing.lol
*please excuse all the misspelled words, I don't have my laptop at work today and the work computer doesn't have any type of internet spell check.

Those are 'shrimps.' Really common BJJ exercise.

Lolol, I do find that very funny. I have been there. The first few weeks for me were so hard on the ego. I ran like a 5 minute mile, could bench about 1.5 times my body weight and cycled all the time. It was such a rude surprise to find that I couldn't grapple for three minutes.

Lol, I have before though. Especially when you roll with bigger guys, it just happens.
I've tapped to side control, mount, even half guard with really huge guys. it's an awful feeling.

I love every second of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and the Sundance Kid. I honestly enjoy you writing about class. Dont' worry about tapping to side control, I know a lot of people who have done it. It happens when you start with bigger guys.

Tapping to side control? I've tapped to mount, side control, half-guard and backmount and it always sucks But hey, we're training because we love it and cause we want to learn! I'm pretty quick with tapping if I get stuck and don't know a defense for whatever position it might be (usually side control), so I'll just grab a more experienced guy and ask him how to get out of that.
Last time in shooto practice we did combos into doubles followed by guard passes which, to say the least, made my legs feel like noodles! After that we were supposed to roll and I got completely tooled by the bigger guys (which means that I really need to work on my stamina). The last guy I rolled with quit after our second round and ran to the bathroom... when he came back two guys had to hold him up for the end of the class :s
I love reading/talking about training experiences so this was a great read Sundance!

Agreed. Keep 'em coming. Anyone else with any stories to share too. I like these.
I'm actually starting at a new school tomorrow. I went in and paid my dues today. It'll be interesting. I just got to Spain a few weeks ago, and I am going to be training at a school that obviously speaks Spanish. My Spanish still isn't that great, so it will be an interesting experiene to say the least.
I'm sure I'll have some stories to share soon, I will post them as they occur.
I have that nervous feeling when joining a new gym. I know there's nothing to be nervous about, but being the new kid even worse when you're the new kid and you barely speak the language, lol.

But I figured you guys wouldn't believe me.
So then I was going to leave out the part about tapping to side control.lol
But Fuck it, mine as well tell the truth. I FUCKING SUCK.
I'll get better though.

You will get better. I know everyone says this, but it just comes with time. I improved bit by bit for the first few months, but made a huge leap in ability after about 7 or 9 months.
Something finally just clicked in my head. I wasn't that much bigger or stronger than before, I just understood things a little better, and when you understand the concepts that goes a long way.
Odds are it will be the same for you. You'll spend a few months learning techniques, and then some things will just start to click and you will be tapping the new white belts embarrassingly.
