Good read for me to come back to Sundance.

My BJJ classes started off like that too, I tapped my first class when a 220 lb blue belt had my back and was smothering me, and cranking my neck every which way. I prevented him from getting the choke, but tapped because I didn't wanna throw up on the mat lol.

I feel your pain, I'm 5'7" bout 170-180 walking around and there are 3 guys that i roll with regular that are 6' 195-230. Fat asses will lay on me every time. LOL I can manage to get them tired then submit them (I've got better cardio and more experince lol) but I have learned the hard way to not try and submit them to soon, they'll just power out.

but on the bright side, going with guys my size usually isn't a problem given the training partners i have. LOL

I was rolling with the only guy in our club with more time on the mat than me and I managed to get him in a RNC. We had just discussed guys grabbing the choke and squezzing with everything they have and not really having it locked in and wearing their arms out.

so I get it locked in and I start applying pressure slowly, squezzing my elbows together then leaning my head in, and nothing. I loosen up and start wondering if I have it or not, then I squeeze with all i have and still nothing.

At this point I get pissed push him off of me and perceede to tell him f-you then I hear him to pretent to snore to egg me on even more.

Funny thing was, he wasn't pretending, he as actually out, which is kinda scarey since he tapped and I never felt it and he could have been really hurt, but he wasn't so it's funny as hell. I slap his back and he's on his arms which are folded under his chest and kinda looks over at me and says, "How did I get here?" LOL He had no idea that he had been put to sleep, and the last thing he remebered was tapping. After appologizing alot for not feeling the tap, I told him the story and he even got a chuckle out of it, with me thinking he was just messing with me and pretending to sleep.

when a person 'goes to sleep' while you are applying a chokse is there something in there body that makes it so you can tell? Liek when the body goes limp is it easy to feel the difference in them straining to get out and not?

Not always. Sometimes it's easy, especially if they are struggling alot. But some people are very good at relaxing, and there isn't a huge difference when they pass out, especially when you're full of adrenaline and less observant than you might otherwise be.

To be totally honest I couldn't tell cause I was focusing so much on the hold and getting him to tap (since it's so hard for me to catch him) I didn't notice any difference in his overall body tension. When I rolled him off of me and he was snoring through his mouth piece I still thought he was just f**king with me and didn't even catch on till he didn't answer his name and looked really bewildered after I hit his back.

I would assume that there would be a diffrence normally, but I never noticed.

While I'm here, I have another funny one for ya'll.

I was rolling with the same guy agian and we had been going for about 5 minutes and I was utterly exhausted and basically he was just doing what ever he wanted and all I could do was defend. At one point we wound up in a scramble and he caught me and took me down and he grabbed my hips to get me down further and my back hit an electical plug.

Picture if you will 110 volts + sweaty back.

It hit me and I litteraly jumped out of his grasp and across the mat. After we realized I wasn't dead or burnt, he said he didn't know what had happened but he did know that he tried to hold me down and couldn't!

So if you ever hit the wall look for an electrical plug to help you out of a bind.

Thanks, I have never done that to someone or have been choked out myself so I don't no what to expect.

Yea, I figured it is as you and noob said. When your full of adrenaline and concentrating on one thing it might be hard to realize something else.

At the end of the class expect to be the most physically tired you have ever been in your life, sore, bruised, yet absolutely amped at the same time. Free rolling is the greatest workout I have ever had.

I took two months off between moving and finding an apartment in Spain. I just started up again yesterday and I am sore as fuck.


I got lucky and it rained today. I normally ride my bike, but used it as an excuse to not go. My shoulders, and inner thighs hurt so good.
