i jsut think that the only knock or arguement people have agianst MMA is what it was like at the beginning of the UFC and it bugs the fuck out of me for people to have that be the stereotype of these fighters

Yeah, I can never understand people who like to watch boxing and football yet they see MMA as too violent.

I think it is all bullshit though.. a lot of people call it too violent and smash it because they nut hug whatever sport they are into. I had a convo with a kid at work and he told me he didn't watch PRIDE or UFC because they WEREN'T as violent as the IFL (which I think they are equally as violent). I asked him if he started watching IFL before either, and he said yes.
And I've had NFL fans give me crap for liking MMA, though no ancedotes come to mind
Now, that is just an example within MMA. People will stick with whatever they know to a stubborn and ignorant extent.

Here was a lil article posted on the upcoming issue of ESPN....
Quote:

For those that doubt mixed martial arts has arrived in the collective conscience of mainstream America, you have to look no further than the current issue of ESPN The Magazine. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell and son Cade grace the cover, the first time in the publication’s history that a mixed martial artist has held such a distinction.
“Nobody deserves this more than Chuck Liddell – he is a true ambassador for the UFC and the sport of mixed martial arts,” said UFC President Dana White. “When people think of the UFC, the first fighter that comes to mind is Chuck Liddell. He’s a great person, a good friend and one of the best fighters I’ve ever known. I’m pleased to see him on the cover of ESPN the Magazine.”
Allison Glock, author of the ESPN The Magazine cover story, writes, “…Liddell has transcended the sport to become a cultural icon…He is The Guy for most guys, a real-life hero in a world of spoiled, whiny poseurs.”
The release of the magazine coincides with the build-up for Liddell’s next title defense, a rematch scheduled for May 26 in Las Vegas, Nev. against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Liddell lost to Jackson the first time they met, which took place in the Pride FC ring. Jackson is one of three losses on Liddell’s record and the only one that he has not yet avenged.
“I’ve been waiting for this fight with Rampage for a long time. I’m excited about it and I will knock him out,” said Liddell. “This is the last loss on my record that I have to avenge so I want to put that behind me and then look at new challenges.”

jesus... look at Chuck's gut.. he has got to lay off the beer..
-hears Sundance yell- Blasphemy!!!
P.S. And don't get me wrong, 26 times out of 20 fights (yeah, that is math for you), Chuck would eat me alive.. but his gut is...yeah....
My dad has the same stomach as Chuck and my dad hasn't worked out since he stopped doing karate over 20 years ago.

Great great shit, I love watching MMA explode right in the face of all the naysayers.
I did see a thing on E! (terrible station) the other day that said UFC was NHB, and then played a little love song in the background while Bonnar was working a takedown on Forrest and then working from side control in slo-mo. Recognition is coming around though, and ESPN is the major vehicle for sports in the U.S.
