It is a matter of opinion though. Whether or not you understand the sweet science, it may not be your cup of tea. It's all subjective.

I think people are reacting to the amount of hype that was surrounding the fight. Implicitly or assumed, many people expected a war. Regardless of whether or not that's a rational expectation, it is what it is and it seems there were more than a few people with such expectations.

He may only fight one way, but so does Tim Sylvia, and neither of us ever expects to hear an end to the ripping on poor Poopy Pants. Just because a fighter always fights that way doesn't mean people will stop being unsatisfied by it.

I agree to some degree, but just because you were left unsatisfied by that match does not automatically mean you didn't know "what you're looking at."
I'm pretty sure I knew what I was looking at, and as impressive as the fight was at times it did become a point contest in the later rounds. Smart or not, diehard fan or not, those will never be the fights people remember.

It was a great technical fight, but displays of technical prowess are rarely the most entertaining for fans regardless of the sport. Look at Roger Federer, he's dominant in a way few athletes are in any endeavour. But he is always followed by claims of fans that he is not exciting, that his style is unentertaining.
It's par for the course. Sports are as much about the spectators as they are about the sport. Most organizations are equal part sport and spectacle, you can't always separate the technical abilities from the entertaining abilities, just like you can't separate the connoisseurs from the casual fans in the audience. They're both there, and neither has any more right to the sport than the other.
