Wrestling is different in Japan. In the U.S. the crowd does take over and there a lot of rowdy people and such in the audience, but in Japan, the crowds for Pride and Wrestling are pretty identical. Not only that but the Japanese wrestling style is more "shoot" like and is viewed more like a competetion rather than a big show. They booking and hyping for Pride and Wrestling are similar in a way in Japan. In Japanese Pro Wrestling it's common to see just a match without some crazy storyline or what have you like in the U.S. Plus they book a lot of legitimate fighters in JPW and promote matches like a competetion with a one fight showdown rather than a huge build up with a storyline that spans months and run ins and such. Just youtube a JPW show and you'll see that it's very similar to a Pride show. Even the crowds.

Every sport has ignorant fans..lets just leave it at that.

I personally dislike the celebrities that are there for face time on camera that have no interest in the sport. MMA isn't a social event to me!

For decades a sport or team has been measured in America on how many celebs you have in the front row. It is a good thing to have them there as it gives people who don't know anything about the sport something to relate to..

Casual fans which pay $ and get us hardcore fans the match-ups we want.

My understanding is that in Japan its not nearly as necessary for Pride to distance itself from Japanese Pro Wrestling.
ALL major sports have ove the top entrances. Look at the Super Bowl and NBA regular season games, All-Star game and playoffs. All of them have over the top, individual entrances.

The reason the UFC does not do it is because they are cheap, that is why they still use PURPLE and GREEN lighting. It's just tacky. Also their opener is tacky, they have not upgraded, it's still the same Roman intro with the horrible song. IMO it just does not compare to "pride" composed by Yasuharu Takanashi. The whole exp-erience from the Ring entrances, the theme song, the closing song, the spirit of the fans and the montages.

I think the only reson the UFC does not follow suit is that PRIDE's production costs $250,000 per event, the UFC's costs $50,000 per event.

Yup I would agree UFC is cheap, but balancing cost and revenue is a key in keeping the company afloat. I say if they can afford it, then do the extra stuff, if not then just give us the best fights and don't go bankrupt.

That's exactly it. I'd much rather have Cro Cop in the UFC then pyro and sets

Exactly, I don't like them and clown them when I see them on the PPV's but the douchebags and casual fans drop lots on money on live gate and PPV's which makes it possible for big promotions to sign them to contracts and get them fighting for our entertainment.

Good job celebs, keep thinking your down and keep shelling out those dollars so we can continue to have the greatest fighters in the world.

The cellebs certainly didn't make the UFC or any other promotion popular, they jumped on board after MMA had already blown up but having them there now definitely helps the cause for the present and future recruiting non MMA fans.

It's not to say that I don't like UFC..but the experience is just different now. It seems so commercial. What's the general concensus on how the Pride will be run? Will it still have that "warrior" feeling or it will it be modified to match the more commercially appealing UFC style?

Again, this is not to take away from any fighter..I respect and enjoy them all..it's the production value of the programming I refer to.
Pride id Dead!!!

To answer your question, it will look awful and Dana will destroy it within a year.Think King of the Cage Japan thats what it will look like.
