UFC 71 Card Finalized

This has been set for a while now, but the card and (I think) the fight order are now final so I thought it was time to set up a new thread.

May 26, 2007 - UFC 71: LIDDELL VS. JACKSON will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV and will air on PPV.

Main Card

1 - Light Heavyweight Championship: Chuck "the Iceman" Liddell (20-3) vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (26-6)

2 - Middleweight: Terry Martin (15-2) vs. Ivan Salaverry (12-4)

3 - Welterweight: Josh "the People's Warrior" Burkman (8-3) vs. Karo "the Heat" Parisyan (16-4)

4 - Light Heavyweight: Houston Alexander (6-1) vs. Keith "the Dean of Mean" Jardine (12-2)

5 - Middleweight: Chris "the Crippler" Leben (16-3) vs. Kalib Starnes (7-1)

Preliminary Bouts

6 - Light Heavyweight: James "Sandman" Irvin (12-3) vs. Thiago Silva (9-0)

7 - Light Heavyweight: Sean Salmon (9-2) vs. Eric "Ravishing Red" Schafer (7-2)

8 - Lightweight: Jeremy Stephens (8-1) vs. Din "Dinyero" Thomas (19-6)

It sure sucks that Leben is on the main card while Thiago Silva debuts in a dark match. I would have preferred to see that or Thomas. vs Stephens, but I'm not exactly surprised either. Salaverry vs. Martin getting prominent position is nice, though.

I'm with you. He really needs a win soon though. He hasn't been doing well of late. I think he's lost two of his last three.

Leben's fight shouldn't be too long though.

I doubt they will only show 5 fights regardless but who knows.

You're right, typically at least one dark match makes the telecast, but I don't like the odds that it'll be Thiago Silva's fight. Unfortunately I see this becoming something of a trend, the TUF guys will continue to get prominent billing in the PPV cards so that they can entice the casual UFC fans to buy the big events.

You are correct.

If the Thiago Silva fight goes to dc it will definitely not be on the card.

But I hope they show it.
