Default Abu Dhabi vs. boxing

With all this MMA vs. boxing talk, sometimes I wonder why no one ever debates ADCC and boxing. Since MMA combines both stand-up and ground fighting, it makes no sense to compare it to one or the other. How about debating boxing vs. sub fighting occasionally?

Submission grappling is quite a bit more difficult for an uneducated viewer to appreciate. Boxing is so much more visually impressive, and in an easy fashion. The speed, flying hands, footwork.

Two guys laying on each other for twenty minutes, which is what it looks like to a lot of people, is much more difficult to keep a crowd's attention. There isn't nearly as much explosive athleticism to be displayed.

Both boxing and grappling require educated audiences to fully appreciate the artistry of a match, but boxing can be entertaining even without a complete understanding of all the fine details. Submission grappling is more dependent on familiarity with it to ingratiate the same fan value.

Sub Grappling is like Chess for almost every move there is a counter so your job is to keep moving and countering against a partner that is doing the same. In general the more verse grappler will get the upper hand. Weight and strength do play a roll but many times when a fighter is really verse, the skill set of that grappler will prevail anyway. Now this being said I don't think the majority of the population likes to watch Chess and same goes with Grappling I just think it is not dumbed down enough for them. Everyone understands a dude punching the other in the face because of its brutish nature.
