I also emailed good old Mike.

I pointed out how MMA was much more multi-dimensional than boxing, and how you can see this just be comparing body-types between the two sports: boxers, by and large, are tall and thin. MMA competitors have a mix of body types.

Whatever... It's just ignorance. He has no idea what he's talking about. He is just scared that MMA will take over his once glorified sport. Frankly boxing has in incredibly rich history and has flourished as a time honored sport. MMA is in it's formative years and we will have people talking trash like this about it for some time to come.

As MMA becomes more of a threat to boxing, be prepared to hear many more attacks on MMA's legitimacy as a sport. It's just the way things go. Take it all with a grain of salt and a little perspective on where it's coming from. This is what we'll be hearing until MMA is a time tested sport. We are in the baby stages here... I would say well more than half(probably more than three quarters) of Americans have never seen an MMA match. 90% don't even know the term MMA. I have friends my age who didn't even know what the fuck I'm talking about until I explained it to them. Now on the flip side... what american has never seen boxing?

So give it some time. Don't waste your breath. We shall overcome.

If someone can find the email of the editor for that section of Sportsline's site I'd like to have it. I don't want to write to tell them to fire his ass, but I do want to point out that one of their writers is making untrue and misleading claims about a sport they claim to cover fairly. I'll try to see what Sam Caplan has to say as well.

EDIT: Generic Sportsline feedback goes here:

I sent Mike Freeman a piece of my mind but I'm sure he has been flooded with replies to his ridiculously ignorant article.

So UFC is a clown league. Instead of running his mouth he shoul of atleast get some facts about MMA before talking crap about it. So UFC are made with a bunch of bouncers and Parolees. That’s so ignorant of him to Evan say that. HAHA. The number one LightHeavyWt of the world in UFC has a College Degree in Accounting, Mirko Cro Cop who is the Number 2 Ranked Heavy WT is apart if the Croatian Parliament! The number 1 HeavyWt Teaches the Russian army in combat training. The fighters people see on TV have mostly all college Degrees. Or are well Known College or Olympic Wrestlers. Such as Josh Koscheck , Matt lindland, Dan Henderson, Randy Cotoure. They’re not just any punks off the street. They are all decorated in some form of martial arts. Weather is BJJ, Wrestling, Sambo, Boxing, and Kenpo. UFC not human cock fighting. You never see MMA fighters walking around “punch drunk” Like how boxers are. It’s a much safer sport.

And as for boxing. I love watching boxing. But shit alot of those guys are punks of the streets who started traing boxing to keep out of trouble. Or took up boxing while they where in Jail.(Just some im sure there more good guys also) This guys is a fool. Thanks for the Thread.

He's not ignorant, and he knows exactly what he's doing.

This is just another example of someone garnering support by denouncing something with no facts, blatant disregard for the truth and a personal dislike.

Posting threads like this is exactly what he wants. His whole persona is based on pissing people off. So why buy into it and perpetuate it? This just makes him a success.

UFC equals the Ultimate Farcical Clown League

Wouldn't that be UFCL? lol, if you are going to make a joke, at least make sense

Lol, despite the crooks and greed, boxing is great.. priceless. Yeah I know, Holyfield's win over Lewis wasn't a crock of shit. Mike Tyson beating off Holyfield's ear, no unnecessary violence there. De La Hoya vs Mayweather is becoming mainstream? By who? HBO? If I asked some random person what the next big boxing fight is, they wouldn't know... I bet 9 out of 10 people. Given, probably the same for the UFC, but I am not calling it mainstream either. This guy is a jackass
