UFC 70 Random Thoughts (Maj Dec, BJM, Point Deductions)
I just had some random thoughts/questions after watching UFC70. There are a ton of posts floating around about the event right now, so if there are threads that I missed about what I'm about to say, let me know and show me where they are.
1) How did the one official score the Kongo/Silva fight a draw? I was under the impression that only the refs could dock points, and it was a 10 point must system. That means that somebody (and only one person) has to get 10 points each and every round, so no single official can score it a draw unless there are point deductions. But, obviously something in my reasoning is wrong since it happened. Whats up here?
2) I didnt see BJM all night long. Not only is it odd that the UFC's most famous ref didnt do anything during its big, free event, but I thought that he had a long streak going back to like UFC 2 going. Where was he? (I didnt even see him handling the prefight stuff).
3) "First person to retreat loses a point" WTF?

1-I din't get that either.Must've the first where kongo wasn't doing shit under silva, so they gave him 8.
2-I was wondering that too. I was kind of pissed that he didn't ref the main event.
3-Herb dean saying that to AA/ Werdum was weird. I didn't really get it.

I think it was probably a "heat of the moment, first words off your tongue" type thing when he said that. I couldnt see anyone remaining calm and collected during a fight, including the ref, so he probably meant to say "next person to retreat loses a point" but "first person" was what slipped out in a rush. I dunno.

I would imagine BJM had some sort of prior commitment (or something similar) where he couldn't make it out to britain.

I thought Herb Dean did an OK job except for that slip. Bisping was a little excitable outside the ring.
Am I the only person who noticed Herb reach up and cover his face when he saw CC's leg?

I don't know, but that fight stunk. Kongo is so big and stron but not a good fighter. I think they should have just made it a draw so neither of them won. Not sure how the judge can make it 28-28 but there must be a rule where they can not give anyone a round.

i def saw that, he looked very worried, almost like he thought cc was dead or something
anyone else noticed how small cc looked next to gonzaga?? i dont know if its been posted before, but i think cc could make 205 and would be better in there. I dont know if he cuts any weight to make the 225 but if he doesnt i dont see why he cant come down to 205, and be a big LH.

The winner of the round must get 10 points, but there's no rule that there has to be a winner of the round. Judges are allowed to give 10-10 rounds.
