I think it's a valid discussion, I don't know why God was given the grief he was. I don't even think he was setting up excuses, that's the funny thing - just discussing something that seemed out of place.
If you're going to bitch at God, bitch at him for giving me this shitty avatar
Regarding the standup - definitely too fast. As someone who greatly loves MMA, I would hate to think that the standup was based upon a desire to orchestrate the outcome of the fight. I think it's unarguable that it was a bad call, but bad calls can be made without implying malicious intent.
What I hope is that, due to the crowd booing so much in the earlier fights (including those not televised) due to lack of action, both on the feet and on the ground, Herb had a much quicker trigger finger than he usually would. I don't think he was
right to do so, I'm just saying I think (and hope!) that's what it was.
There are other reasons to think this was at play - the odd admonition to AA and Werdum at the start of round 3 that he'd deduct a point from the first one to retreat - which neither myself nor any of the Spike broadcasting crew had ever heard before. That was a really odd warning, and that coupled with this standup tells me they were aware of the long, uneventful dull stretches and were attempting to keep the action moving.
