A long time ago, way back when cage fights first began, a lot of inexperienced fighters who didn't want to get taken down by BJJ expects would just stand and hang onto the cage for dear life, till the entire fight was over. No joke: 15 solid minutes of a dude hanging onto the fence while some BJJ practitioner was tugging on him trying to take him to the ground. So, it became illegal to hold onto the cage.
