Would you watch a 'Seniors' division in MMA?
As time goes on, we know that fighters come and go. My question is this...
If an event was put together that brought together a group of star name fighters (Sakuraba, Royce, Shammy, Coleman, are a few that come to mind. Would you pay to watch these former stars fight even though they are past their prime? Other sports being back their Seniors...could this work in MMA due to a loyal fan base to specific fighters?
I know for me personally, I would pay to watch Saku fight even though he is way past his prime. I have several favorites that I would enjoy watching fight even though their skills have diminished due to time.

I would actually pay to watch this too. Mainly just for the curiosity factor though, but what would be the age cut off? Or is it just retired fighters?

Yeah after I think about it I wouldn't pay either lol. I had a hard time paying for the GSP ppv (glad I did though).

I don't know abou the PPV aspect either (maybe a lower price?). I also think that although the skill level has diminished, that matched against other semi-retired or active fighters would still be an enjoyable show.
One thing to remember is that the last thing that goes is power, so some of these fighters can still bang with some juice!
I did just think that one person that would throw a wrench in this is Randy Couture...he would be considered a "senior" but still kicks butt!

No I would not watch a senior division. It’s already hard enough watching these guys get into the ring as it is. I think it would take away from the younger fighters working their way up in this fast growing sport. The “Seniors” have brought us to where we are today, and for that I have the utmost respect for them, but when I watch the Gracie vs Militich “Super Fight” in the IFL, I don’t find nearly as interesting as the preceding fights from their team members. It’s like it’s more of a win for their discipline.
What I would like to see is more weight classes, more fighters and more fights.
For example:
236 to 265 lb
221 to 235 lb
211 to 220 lb
200 to 210 lb
191 to 200 lb
181 to 190 lb
171 to 180 lb
161 to 170 lb
151 to 160 lb
141 to 150 lb
131 to 140 lb
124 to 130 lb
It is my belief that MMA fighters must be the ABSOLUTE best conditioned athlete on the planet. They also MUST BE THE MOST multi skilled athlete on the planet. Once the accept a fight the primary concern should be on skill training, and cardio. Making weight should NOT be an issue. With the additional weight classes there will be title fights, more competition, and more shows for the viewing pleasure. The addition of the smaller weight classes allows for the little guys to show their quickness and skill.
Anyway that’s just my take.

If it ever goes down, an all-senior PPV card would be ridiculous; I doubt many people would pay for that.
If, however, they included one match every so often on a PPV (say, Tank/Coleman, or something like that), I could see it drawing.
