As far as them losing money on this "PPV" I doubt it. They have a sold out crowd at a decent compacity, ad revenue, merchandising and all those other bullshit fees they tack in. Plus who on the card is really getting paid the same amount as Chuck or Hughes besides maybe Crocop. They probably won't make as much money as if they simply made it a strict PPV, but they stand to widen their fan base by offering a "PPV" on free TV. which iver the long run could be worth even more.
Dude there is WAY more to the cost of an event than just the fighter pay. There is the fees to use the arena, Insurance (typically a very large amount), Advertising (this itself probably cost a couple of million dollars), pay for day to day employees, lawyers, production crews, etc.

With their current viewership on SpikeTV they won't make money on the show. They don't draw enough fans to pull huge amounts of money from advertisers. That being said this is still a great business move in the long run. I'm just saying why they don't make more free PPVs.

Since the UFC is trying to go global and make this move into the euro market, even if they do lose money on this thing, they may as well mark that down as marketing expense. A card w/ euro stars like Cro Cop, Arlovski, and Bisping can go a long ways toward UFC's growth abroad. (Assuming that they perform well)

No doubt. It's a brilliant move, so is the show in Ireland. You have to get your product out there.

lots of great arguements, especially afro, I guess I would just like to see more free events, I understand the ufc needs to make money and that the bulk of that money comes from ppv, but I see no reason why they cant have a couple more free fight nights a year, it has the possibility of attrack new fans to future pay per views
