Although recently dethroned UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will be medically cleared in time to fight at UFC 73 in July, the UFC is looking for the Canadian to make his return to the Octagon in August, according to The Fight Network.Currently, the only rumored event set for August is UFC 74, which is expected to take place Aug. 25 and feature two title defenses: heavyweight champion Randy Couture vs. the winner of this weekend’s Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Gabriel Gonzaga main event, and lightweight champion Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca.

According to The Fight Network:

St. Pierre has informed the UFC that his preference would be to fight on the July card. Nonetheless, it appears Zuffa would rather have GSP fight next in August at UFC 74.

St. Pierre lost his belt in a stunning upset to Matt Serra at UFC 69 earlier this month. Despite the loss, St. Pierre remains one of the UFC’s top-ranked welterweights and one of the division’s top contenders.

An immediate rematch with Serra seems unlikely. UFC president Dana White recently stated that Serra would instead face former champ Matt Hughes in his first title defense, possibly at a UFC 75 event in September.

As some UFCjunkie.com readers have already noticed, we recently implemented a “Rumors” section here on the site.

With UFCjunkie.com now breaking news about rumored matches fairly often — and in an attempt to keep you updated on the latest rumored fight cards — we decided to post the section here on the site. I’ve kept an unpublished list on my computer desktop for months and figured it might make for an interesting section for the hardcore fans here on the site.

Remember, of course, that these are just rumors — and in no way should be taken as fact. The fight cards will be updated regularly, and numerous changes are inevitable.
UFC 74 is looking stacked already.

RUMORS:

Couture vs winner of CC/Gonzaga
Sherk vs Franca
GSP vs TBA

It looks like a good card but my guess is that the UFC would feed GSP a TUF reject so there is no chance he'll lose, kinda like feeding Lytle to Hughes. Although maybe GSP subconsciously fights to the level of his competition. And please in no way is that disrespecting Matt Serra so don't ever go there.

Although if Karo beats Burkman I would love to see Karo v. GSP in August.

That would a card worth getting regardless of the other two fights that would be aired.

I'm just sick of all the TUF'ers.

I dunno, isn't the reason Matt didn't fight one of them was because it would take out a contender. Same thing here.

Whether you are sick of the TUFer's or not, you can't argue with the fact that some of them are very skilled fighters who just go lumped in with some scrubs on TV. They shouldn't be looked down on b/c they took the opportunity.

I think GSP will come back more fierce than ever. Karo or Burkman would make alot of sense, or Kos or Deigo.
Either way GSP will win.

I totally agree with you that some of them are very skilled I didn't mean to refer to Kos or Deigo, despite my personal opinion's of them I think they would be exciting fights with how GSP pushes the action. I just don't want a TUF can thrown in there.

Yeah, I don't either.

Maybe they'll put GSP up against Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis.

He just beat up Pete Spratt and has been looking good lately.

He'd be a good tune up for GSP imo.

I actually like Davis alot. He got good striking and you can tell he has got a ton of heart. He got so much more jacked then on the show, his ground game has improved a ton, and even thogugh he cuts easy he still fights through it strong. Plus I'm irish. With all the tough competition I don't know if he will ever get a shot, but keep an eye on him.

marcus davis vs gsp would be a smart business choose for zuffa. i think that davis may be diego's next fight though to get him back on the winning side of things.

kos, karo and burkman are the most likely chooses. they all match up well. they'll all earned it. any of them should make for an entertaining fight. and it would be legit that the winner would get a title shot again.

i think diego got to have at least 3 more wins now before he can really be looked at in the title picture again.

I would take that. Davis handle a crafty fighter in Shonie and took care of what looked like a very hunger Pete Spratt rather easily. Davis seems to be becoming more well rounded.
