Thanks for the info Clint, I never even considered it being a 170 GP.
I agree i think that the new weight classes and even fighting under the unifed rules will change that landscape of pride's lower weight classes.

its been announce that the lwgp will now take place on july first and they next round will take place early fall. they've also said on mma weekly that it will take place in california.

they moved the date back because it gave the new ownership less then 3 weeks to get the show together.

now that its in july you'll see no less than 4 ufc fighters in the tourney. with the event happening in the states i believe it will be at 155. although i'm said to not see the first event in japan. i think that having it in the states is the smart business move. having a few ufc fighters in there will give Pride great exposure here in the states.

The weight wouldn't, but the power and competition would for sure. He should stay lower. Beating Penn may be out of the question, but he's already beat Pulver. I would love to see him fight Fisher, Bang Ludwig, and Guillard.

its funny people always talk about how pride made its lw 160 for gomi. and it may be true.

here's the deal anyone could make 155. if thats where you want to fight . you just have to maintain a little lower street weight. and then cut or do whatever you normally do to get to your weightclass.

No way. Age catches up to you and making that weight gets tougher and tougher. Even guys who are conditioning freaks like Camacho end up moving up as they age. Just a part of the game. Luckily, it seems that the older and more rugged you get, the more damage you can withstand and continue. That makes moving up more of an option.

i agree the older you get the harder it is to cut weight. but anyone at any age (especially a pro athlete) can take a few pounds off their body in order to help them in staying in whatever weightclass they want. gomi will go whatever he needs to to allow him to fight 155 or 170. i think 170 is to big for him and he's better off at 155.

PRIDE GRAND PRIX TO BEGIN JULY 16TH
With the recent postponement of this year’s highly anticipated Pride Lightweight Grand Prix, fans were uncertain as to when the event would finally take place. They didn’t have to wait long as DSE executive Nobuhiko Takada recently revealed the first round the tournament would happen on July 16th. The second and third rounds are expected to occur sometime in September and November.

The ownership of Pride officially changes over on May 1st. Pride 35 is slated to take place sometime in June and will be the first show under the newly formed Pride FC Worldwide. The event is expected to happen in California at a venue that has yet to be announced.

I'm guessing all the information will be released at UFC 71 since that's the first PPV after the owership changes hands. I just hope there is no truth to Hughes being in it b/c all that will do is hold up the WW title from being defended. And with there being so much talent in both organizations around the 155 lb mark and the light that TUF 5 will shine on the class it's a perfect GP to showcase Pride to the US.
