Possible 170 lb fighters in Pride's WW div

well from what i rememeber the little striking that did happen int he 2nd and 3rd round gsp was getting the better, with that being said i also havnt watched the fight in like 6months so maybe im wrong, also id like to state that everyone always talkin about how filho would beat gsp, do people not realize filho is a 185lber? thats like saying chuck lidell would beat anderson silva , their not in the same weight class and i dont see filho dropping down he doesnt have an inch of fat on him how it is

It doesn't work like that. It's water weight they drop. Naturally GSP is allot bigger then Filho but he cuts the water to get down to 170. Besides Filho fights 185 because there is no 170s in Pride.

Yeah people just overlook that because of how GSP kicked his ass the 2nd fight the 3rd I see the fight going more like the first one did...Matt hughes by sub. And yes Filho will be scary in the ww div.

filho fights at 183 because half his teammates are at 205. hes naturally like 210-ish, cuts around as much as Franklin to make 185. he will never make 170. people keep forgetting that


and i am so confused as to how GSP has improved immeasurably in the 1 fight against Hughes, since fighting BJ. i just rewatched the BJ-GSP fight a few days ago, then watched GSP dominate Hughes.
GSP used the same exact strategies: advance and retreat behind the jab, when you step in behind the jab, utilize a quick combo of straight punches, utilize the switch inside leg kick, and throw the head kick to keep him guessing
but unlike Hughes, BJ does not suck at striking
first round, BJ pretty much controlled him, he checked all his kicks, slipped or parried all his punches, and popped him whenever GSP hit the pocket. after the 1st, he started getting hit with more and more jabs, but in the 2nd and 3rd, GSP jsut started using the takedowns to earn his points

He is...

personally, FIlho should make his way up to a GSP caliber fight.. jumping right in there with GSP wouldnt be good.. Filho has the tools to beat him but GSP is well rounded, dont know who has the better wrestling, I know Filho has the power and size advantage, GSP has a definent striking advantage but Filho has an even better BJJ advantage.. its the kinda fight he should work his way up towards.
