As a Diego fan this topic frustrates me, because when Diego wants to pass guard, he probably is among the 10-15 best in the world to do it. But where he gets a lot of his (undeserved) LNP reputation is that he often chooses to remain in the guard and strike.
He does damage from there, but nothing equivalent to a Tito or Fedor. He should look to pass guard all the time, mount and then rain down.
For my response I have to go with GSP....hot knife through butter is a pretty good description, he passes the guard like it's not even there.

Yeah I got GSP as a pretty close second to Filho.

Thats a good description of Diego's shortcoming. He is explosive as all hell and could probably be a monster if he was focused on using his quickness to improve his position, but it seems like he is somewhat content to stack his opponents and try to shatter his hand on the mat going for a KO punch. He's also extremely open to upkicks at times.
GSP just seems to know exactly when to soften his opponents up on the ground, then move for a better position. I guess you could say he 'as dee mad riddum. |

only time Fedor didnt consistently pass guard was on Cro Cop. which i think is crazy, since he passed a few times to half and side on Noguiera

Filho is the only guy I have seen who takes people down and within like 5 seconds is mounted on them.
Fedor doesn't even do that, GSP laid in BJ's guard for 10mins.
Filho by far..it is what he does, he has no other game.

Agreed, half the time Filho is passing guard while he's taking them down.

only problem is, Filho has not fought any solid BJJ guys, mounting Suloev and Misaki isnt that impressive, so most people are more inclined to mention someone like Fedor, who who has passed on the likes of Noguiera

Understandable, but I think Filho would school whoever happened to get taken down by him. He's a truck at 185, and has better power and technique than anybody in his weight class imo.
