What I don't understand about Babalu is how his standup has slowly gotten worse the longer his career has progressed. I just watched his fight with Pele and he whooped Pele's ass in every respect and Babalu's standup looked fantastic. I mean, the guy threw an axe kick at one point. I don't get Babalu, he just didn't look like himself at all against Lambert, throwing shitty knees without protecting his face. Very out of character. Seriously, what the fuck happened in that fight? Bringing it up just now makes me really pissed off because I forgot how bothered I was by that fight. He looked nothing like himself and he will more than likely be shelved for another 6 months because he fought like shit. I'm sure it has been discussed but I was totally thrown off guard by that fight. I don't think Lambert is really that good, and he damn well shouldn't be in the top 10, especially if Rashad isn't there.
I'm going to bed......

How could you possibly think MMA Weekly are UFC nuthuggers? Sherk barely made the top 10 when he won the title (#9), and a few months later, he's off completely. If MMA Weekly are hugging any nuts, it definitely ain't the UFC's.
Anyway, Lambert's win over Babalu definitely puts him into consideration for the top 10, if not the top 10 itself. He's got a very good record and has beaten a lot of solid competition on his way to the top. There was the slip-up against Rashad, but he bounced back in true top contender-like form and took out a guy everyone has in their top 10.
For the record:
1. Liddell
2. Shogun
3. Arona
4. Hendo
5. Silva
6. Rampage
7. Lil Nog
8. Tito
9. Nakamura
10. Babalu, Evans, or Lambert
Babalu is coming off of two really bad losses, getting blown out by the #1, and then getting knocked out by a guy out of the top 10. Rankings don't generally reflect your career achievements, instead, they're usually based on stuff like recent records, recent performances, and whether or not you carry a major title. Being a champion (either Pride or UFC) should be enough to keep you in the top 10 (in Sherk's case), but in Babalu's case, I think it's understandable that he got dropped after two fights in which he didn't look good at all.

What logic isn't there? In the last year, Chuck ran through 3 guys who at the time were top 10, possibly top 5 (Randy, Babalu, and Tito), all in title fights. Just completely trashed them. Meanwhile, Shogun had 5 fights in the last year, his last two being the most solid (Nakamura and Overeem). Before that, he fought at heavyweight in at least two fights (Coleman and Randleman), losing one (freakishly, shouldn't really count against him), and crushed a can in a meaningless fight. Matter of fact, the only real meaningful fights he's had lately were against Nakamura and Overeem.
If they were even before, Chuck, by virtue of his dominating wins in title defenses against excellent and worthy contenders, just slides ahead of Shogun, in my book, but again, there is also an excellent case for Shogun to be #1. I think in this case, Chuck being a champion is the deciding factor.

Can someone tell me why Rashad gets no respect. He consistently wins against whoever they put him up against. It's like Dana doesn't like him. The UFC gives him shit C'mon, Sean the shit Salmon? He kicks the crap out of Lambert and Lambert gets to fight Babalu? Jardin got Forest and now Ortiz??? I like Jardin but why is Rashad getting the leftovers?

What about beating Arona, Rampage, and Lil Nogs?

I know, but it seems most rankings are typically based on very recent fights, and since this year is still young, last year's fights are the ones typically taken into consideration. Therefore, 2005 seems like a long time ago right now, and right after Shogun's incredible year that year, he would probably have tied with Chuck for the #2 slot behind Wand. Right now, though, Chuck's 2006 was a bit better than Shogun's 2006, and Chuck's still done a bit more career-wise than Shogun (no fault of Shogun's though, he's still young). The veteran will generally get the nod in that case over the younger guy. And those Couture wins are starting to look a lot better now that Randy trashed a consensus then-top 5 HW in Tim Sylvia since he came back.
Even so, Shogun ranked ahead of Chuck isn't inconceivable either. It really is a coin toss, and you'd still end up with a great #1.
