Hughes Asked For Sanchez, Couture Wants CroCop
NBC Sports' UFC page has added highlights from the UFC 68 post-fight press conference. In the video there are comments from Randy Couture, Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes.
Couture discussed his victory and mentioned his desire to have a match with newly signed UFC Heavyweight Mirko CroCop, which he again said was part of the reason he decided to make his comeback.
Franklin discussed his victory and how fighting in his hometown was different than he thought it would be, despite his claims prior to the fight that it wouldn't be.
Matt Hughes talked about coming off the loss to Georges St. Pierre, whether or not he deserves a rematch for the title and how he originally asked to fight Diego Sanchez on this show.

Randy has always wanted to fight the best the sport has to offer, he has asked for a fight with Wanderlei Silva on multiple occasions, the last time coming at PRIDE Shockwave 2004 where Couture joined Bas Rutten and Mauro to commentate.
I think we will see both fights thia year (Mirko vs Couture and Diego vs Hughes).

Looking forward to both fights very much.... I really do think that Hughes' heart isnt in it anymore no matter what he says and the CroCop Couture fight is one I have always wanted to see.

Hughes should fight the loser of Diego/Koscheck. thats why i hope it's Diego. i dunno why they didnt set up that fight already. Diego said he wanted to fight Hughes after he beat Riggs, and now Hughes says he wants Diego...make the fucking fight happen damnit UFC!!!

I think they are trying to market Diego up to his maximum potential before a fight that he will be the underdog in again (Karo fihgt was last time and he put up foty candiate) so this rematch with Kos will be a decent draw, then there is nowhere for him to go but to Hughes, Penn or St. Pierre (or Fitch but they will likely move him into contention soon enough, he is deserving as he just won his 12th straight fight at UFC 68).
I don't think Couture vs Mirko will end up being foty material due to the contrasting styles. Couture struck exceptionally well against Sylvia but Mirko is the best striker in MMA, there is just no way Couture will try and stand with him. Couture used side to side head movement against Sylvia, that will get him kicked in the head if he does it against Mirko and Mirko punches so quickly and moves out of range of a counter attack. If anyone can get the fight to the ground it's Couture but I don't forsee good things for Couture in that fight.
If Randy is able to get the fight to the ground which is going to be very difficult, he will have trouble doing damage in Mirko's guard becasue no one has been able to do anythign in Mirko's gurad, not even Fedor (Mirko was trained in BJJ by Werdum) so this will mean Randy having to work hard for takedowns and avoid being hit with many low kicks, mid kicks, a single high kick, and the straight left for 25 minutes, that is goign to be incredibly difficult for Randy to do.
I am looking forward to that fight but do not like Randy's chances and it is such a relief to not have Sylvia as HW Champion.

This would be a great start to a card..
Couture/Crocop - Main event
Franklin/Silva - Co Main event
Hughes/Sanchez
Maybe too many big fights or belts on the line at once for the UFC though.
