The bottom line is that Hogan is right, as far as the UFC goes.

The fights are real and not staged at all.

However, the match-making and the shit-talking leading up to the fights are all carefully planned to maximize viewership and maximize profits.
Hogan used the term 'hook-shoot.' That is an industry term used to identify an acting job in entertainment that is supposed to look real, but is being 'worked.' Hogan's opinion was the the UFC is worked, like wrestling. I think you got your stuff backwards my friend.

In addition, match-making and shit talking have been done in competitive sports for as long as anyone remembers. It's done in all sports, with a greater emphasis when it's one-on-one competition, like boxing or MMA. The talking leading up to a fight has been a mainstay of boxing for years and years. It helps fill seats, and it's so surprise that the UFC does it too. It's pretty standard.

He said "work-shoot." A work is fake. A shoot is real. Hogan is saying the fights are "shoots", meaning the fights are real and not scripted. Hogan is saying everything else, i.e. the shit talking, match making, is a "work", meaning scripted and planned. And he is right.

And those interviews with Dana and Couture definitely exist, the UFC was kind of using them not to show how they match make, but to demonstrate that you can't write fights in UFC. IN other words, Couture was suppose to lose, but he owned chuck, which kind of fucked up dana's short term plans.

There is no doubt that Hogan is just pissed off that MMA is owning pro wrestling now. Plus, Hogan has been appearing at WWF events recently, but couldn't come to terms for a high paying wrestlemania appearence, so he is probably pissed about that too. He is definitely just being a bitch about the whole thing, but that doesn't mean he is wrong.

And, I do agree that all competitive sports create matches that do not necessarily put the two best teams or fighters against each other, they put together the match that will make the most money.

Agreed. I think it's easy for people to forget just how much of a business this is, like any other. Matches get made all the time that make no practical sense other than they fill seats and people want to see them. Same goes with talking trash, drama fills the seats. $.

Live Gate Sales (United States)

1. Boxing's Biggest Event of 2006: $7,636,000 (De la Hoya vs. Mayorga)

2. MMA's Biggest Event of 2006: $5,397,300 (UFC 66)

3. Pro Wrestling's Biggest Event of 2006: $2,500,000 (WWE WrestleMania)

Pay-Per-View Revenue (United States)

1. MMA's Biggest Event of 2006: $47.94 million (UFC 66, according to Zuffa's publicly stated projections)

2. Boxing's Biggest Event of 2006: $46.20 million (De la Hoya vs. Mayorga)

3. Pro Wrestling's Biggest Event of 2006: $31.77 million (WWE WrestleMania, according to WWE's latest claimed figures)
So your telling me that the UFC is kicking the WWE's ass because they had a big event? Your telling me that the WWE is really hurting because of the UFC? Tell me this. How much money does the UFC make a year? How much do their fighter get paid in a ratio to WWE workers? I'm judging them overall. I saw that in 2006 the UFC was the biggest it has ever been but the WWE has been huge. Their ratings are doing somewhat bad because of stupid business decisions but they are not getting their ass kicked by the UFC. A lot of people say that you shouldn't compare the two beause WWE=pro wrestling(fake) and the UFC=MMA(real). The UFC has basically the same audience as the WWE. When they boo it's because it's not as exciting as they want it. Like the WWE. The WWE still has god ratings and they should be proud of that. I will be surprised if the UFC has the same sucess this year as they did last year.

Actually I never said that UFC is "kicking the WWE's ass" and I never said that the "WWE is hurting because of the UFC." Maybe someone else did but not me.

It is really impossible to comapre the money being pulled in by the WWE versus the UFC. You have the UFC who does 1 ppv per month and then the WWE who has 1 ppv per month, 2 television recordings each week (Ram, Smackdown/ECW) and then all the house shows that take place on the other days. The WWE is on the road ALL THE TIME for events almost daily.

Now if you think about it further the UFC is becmoming more successfull. They outdid WWE's biggest event of the year, "Wrestlemania" in gate sales by almost $3million!! with UFC 66. Then they also outdid Wrestlmania in ppv sales with UFC 66 by over $16million! When they pit the best of each org against eachother in the year of 2006, UFC wins hands down.

the ufc will be bigger this year then last, there ppv buyrates will be up from last year, they might not have one huge ppv like 66 but with each ppv up from last year thats more money, and seeing that wwe big stars work 200-300 dates a year and make anywhere from 200,000-1,000,000 and ufc big stars work 3-4 times a year and make over a million, but wwe isnt going anywhere they have been around for a long time and will stay around, its just ufc gates have been making more same with ppv

hogan has talked trash his whole life... he makes up shit on the bubba's show... i give him credit for putting professional wrestling on the map but this guy is one of the most egotistical selfish bastards... all he cares about is money and he is loooadded!!! He's even lucky he's getting paid to the level of the other superstars when he does show up... guys like ric flair deserve way more credit because he is losing to the younger guys to elevate them... he has passion for the business

and as far as a work shoot ... he's a glorified idiot for saying that... these guys are taking real punches and kicks to the face... go tell him to watch the frank mir and tim sylvia fight and say that ufc is a work shoot...
