Hogan's likeable, but I can't imagine he knows a whole lot about MMA. That, and taking into account that he makes his $ off of pro wrestling, I can't imagine he'd be too keen on the organization that is passing WWE by a little more with each passing day.

What??? The UFC is not kicking pro wrestlings ass at all. I don't know what people are talking about on here. Hogan sounded drunk and he even insulted some of his fans so who knows why he was acting like that. And Vince recently declined to pay Hogan as much as he wanted to work at Wrestlemania, around $2 million, so I don't think that he was even trying to take a shot at the UFC for the WWE's sake.

Actually you are wrong, try doing some research first. At the beginning of 2007 the reports from gate sales and ppv buys came in and the top 3 for ppv sales and gate sales were UFC, Boxing and WWE. The WWE came in 3rd on both categories....
Live Gate Sales (United States)
1. Boxing's Biggest Event of 2006: $7,636,000 (De la Hoya vs. Mayorga)
2. MMA's Biggest Event of 2006: $5,397,300 (UFC 66)
3. Pro Wrestling's Biggest Event of 2006: $2,500,000 (WWE WrestleMania)
Pay-Per-View Revenue (United States)
1. MMA's Biggest Event of 2006: $47.94 million (UFC 66, according to Zuffa's publicly stated projections)
2. Boxing's Biggest Event of 2006: $46.20 million (De la Hoya vs. Mayorga)
3. Pro Wrestling's Biggest Event of 2006: $31.77 million (WWE WrestleMania, according to WWE's latest claimed figures)

I didn't hear the interview on the show, but I did read the link.
The bottom line is that Hogan is right, as far as the UFC goes.
The fights are real and not staged at all.
However, the match-making and the shit-talking leading up to the fights are all carefully planned to maximize viewership and maximize profits.
UFC has basically admitted this. If you remember the build up to the second Couture-Liddell fight, the interviews with dana and couture basically confirmed that the first fight between couture and liddell was set up so that liddell would defeat couture, and would force tito to either fight liddell or have his fear of fighting liddell exposed. In his interview, Couture even stated that the match was made so that he would lose to liddell, and force the liddell-tito fight that would do huge numbers.
That is just one example. Other examples are not throwing TUF fighters in with top level competition, and instead "building them up" by having them fight much lesser opponents.
Another example is giving stars like Franklin and Hughes cans after they lost their belts in the hopes of getting a highlight reel finish to "solidify" their number one contender spot.
Sorry guys, but Hogan is right.
