UFC champ Chuck Liddell to appear in Sports Illustrated

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell recently completed a photo shoot for an upcoming edition of Sports Illustrated, according to the Boston Herald.
Here’s a snip from the article:

“SI plans to feature Liddell in its ‘Players’ section in the near future, recreating some of his workouts for one of the magazine’s weekly features.”

And a snip from the champ:

“They wanted to see a lot of workouts. Then they pick from what I had to do. I think I did eight different exercises for them and they pick five. They’ll write up how I did them and what I did. It’s the first time (the UFC) has been in that magazine. It’s great that a national sports magazine, a mainstream magazine, is taking us seriously.”

Perhaps more important to fans here, the article reveals that the rematch between Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson probably won’t happen until September. And, his opponent for UFC 71 in May “hasn’t been determined yet.”
Several reputable sources are reporting that Liddell and Rampage will fight at UFC 71. However, it’s widely known that Rampage wants at least one more “tune up” fight prior to stepping inside the cage with Liddell.
UFC President Dana White also recently went on the record saying that the two wouldn’t fight in May.
Not really sure who or what to believe at this point — all we can do is wait for some type official word about his next bout.
In the interview, Liddell also discusses — again — a heavyweight showdown with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
Here’s a snip:

“I’d go up in weight to fight him [Cro Cop]. I’ve got no problem doing that. There’s certain guys I’d do that to fight. I think it’s a fight that everyone would want to see. And he’s not terribly big. He could move down and make my weight if he wanted to.”

Liddell has been a maniac as far as public appearances are concerned — the guy is jet-setting across the United States recently. If he continues on this torrid pace I’d be a bit concerned that it could affect his fight game much like it did Rich Franklin’s.
Then again, May is three months away. Just something to keep on the backburner.

Awesome, good to see them putting liddell in SI and getting UFC even more exposure. Liddell is going to need to slow down with the appearances soon though and focus more on training.

Sports Illustrated? Man, that's great, good for Chuck. MMA is really coming on up in the sports world, this is the proverbial foot in the door. Before long, we may see Georges St. Pierre gracing the cover of SI...then promptly lose his next big title fight (SI Cover Jinx, that shit curses everyone but Michael Jordan).

Lol, the day an MMA fighter is susceptible to the SI curse is the day that we all know MMA has arrived. I long for that day. Well, sort of. Then comes everything else associated with huge popularity. Eh, sounds good right now.

Well, when that day comes, let's hope SI has Tim Sylvia, Wes Sims, Phil Baroni, and Gilbert Yvel on the cover all at once...it'd be like killing 4 birds with one stone.....
