Pride blows UFC away.....Hope Dana keeps his hands off..
Last night was the first time I've ordered a Pride PPV and I was extrememly impressed. What a great show. Top to bottom better than any UFC and I've ordered several. For one we actually have KNOWLEDGEABLE announcers and not the voice of a waay over overhyping Goldberg....and as much as I like Joe Rogan and completely respect his knowledge for the sport, his announcing is not that much to cheer about. His voice just doesn't go over well....(this is my opinion of course)..
Next take the theatrics....I know there are those who "only care about the fights" but look, it's the experience of the whole show from top to bottom that makes the show great. Watching Shogun come out to the music raising his arms with two giant screens on each side of him flash his name.....or Fedor coming out with that music as he slowly raises his head like a cyborg is such an incredible sight, and on top of it, its not just some overhyped wrestling show, when these guys get to the ring you're looking at the best of the best..
Lasty, all these people crying about "ohh, this was bad for Pride"...bad for Pride how??? Give me a break, the best fighters should be fighting the best fighters....I hate how UFC "builds up" its fighters, it's stupid....Throw in Michael Bisping against Rampage or Chuck Liddell, or Jardine against one of them....put Diego in with St. Pierre or Matt Hughes the guy's like 18-0....
Pride throws in the best against the best....they had no problem putting Silva in with Crocop....do you think the UFC would ever have an open weight free for all? Hell no.....
I will continue to order Pride events, and UFC when they're good (definitely not 68) but I hope if Pride sells it's not to the UFC, I don't want dumbed down shows and they NEED competition. We do not need a monopoly, especially the way Dana totally rips any organization other than his own.
just my 2 cents....

Yeah but every time I hear Lon's voice I think of the World Series of Poker. He was a pretty shitty play by play guy last night. I liked Josh Barnett's commentary though. I thought he did a good job.

This Pride event make UFC 67 look like a KOTC event.
8 good quality fights.

Well, if you're considering UFC chocolate, and Pride vanilla, then I hope in the future we get a twist flavor.
Haha excuse the analogy, I work at a Dairy Queen.

If all the top guys kept just fighting each other the hype and excitement for the fans would be lost. Why should UFC throw Bisping to the wolves when he isn't ready? Diego was scheduled for a shot at GSP on April 7 til St. Pierre got hurt and they had to push Matt Serra's fight back.
And as far as Dana ripping other companies how about PRIDE ripping UFC. They had a whole peice at the start of the show about Wandy calling out Chuck. They showed Chuck clips from fighting Rampage then Rampage getting beat by Silva. Now I'll bet you won't see Silva gettin knocked out by Cro Cop or Henderson on UFC's next event.

i agree with ur entire post except for this part. Do u really think that the lil nog/ sokoudjo fight was supposed to be competitive? that it WASNT just building nog up for a title fight? i agree the UFC does this more then PRIDE but PRIDE builds fighters up and protects certain fighters and IMO there is nothing wrong with that. I cant blame PRIDE for wanting a japanese champion, gomi is a huge draw. IMO this ppv wasnt BAD for PRIDE but still didnt accomplish what they wanted

I totally agree about bringing Bas back.....I don't know much about that Millen guy, but he's the one constant negative I hear when Pride is mentioned, and I've heard that's why both Bas and Mauro left. That's unfortunate if it's true. Really and truly though, when watching Pride it "felt" like a bigtime show/fight I was watching. Very professionally done, whereas when I watch UFC I get the feeling I'm watching with a lot of beer drinking (and I drink beer too so no knock against beer drinkers) lower income, not so knowledgeable guys who boo at every chance they get because they're clueless as to what they're watching. The Pride crowd just seems more in tune, and I KNOW that's true in Japan. It made me cringe when I watched UFC 67 and you had these morons booing at every turn.....I think the UFC has a good prodcut, obviously, but they could give the shows a makeover. I even liked Elite XC's overall show better than UFC, and I'm speaking in terms of the show itself, not the fighters. The UFC obviously has superior fighters to Elite XC but again, make the shows bigger and better. YES, ultimately people come for the fights, but it's like the NFL, when you go to the game, its the "experience" of it all that makes the game seem even larger than it really is.....
People are going to knock me for this, but I'd suggest even raising ticket prices at UFC shows (not the PPV) to spend more money AND to keep the disrepectful white trash out. Let them stay at home and order PPV and they can boo all they want. Make it to where a more sophisticated crowd is at the live shows. People who RESPECT what they're watching and what these guys put themselves through. How dare these people boo at guys who train their asses off to go into a ring and are willing to get KNOCKED OUT by fists, legs, elbows, and on and on.....I'd like to see any of these inbreds get in there and not piss themselves....I'll bet just standing across the octagon from Crocop or Chuck Liddell staring them down might put a new spin on their level of respect....

I for one can't stand all the theatrics. In UFC it's 2 minutes of fighters walking down, another 2 for the intro and then they fight. Last night it took 15 minutes before they were even doing the hype package for the first match (and does every fight need one?). The title fight was the worst, both national anthems and another 20 minutes of pomp and circimstance before the fight. I might be in the minority, I like good ring entrances, but there is a limit.
Plus, that chick who does the announcing needs to die. She might be the worst thing in MMA this side of Frank Trigg's nudes. However, along with what Afro said, both companies are different and good. I still prefer UFC but watch and support both, a novel idea to some I know
