Brandon Vera
I'm new around here but I've been reading for a while...anyways...let me get started here with my first post.....So, I was wondering what the deal is with Brandon Vera. I know about the contract issue and the high demands he has and the non existent negotiations with the UFC etc... But, is what I was wondering is about the legalities with him having one fight left. I personally really would like to see him fight again....Especially against a top-tier HW....So, If he has to fulfill it to go to another organization...I really hope he gets a challenge in front of him on the way out.....However.....It puts Dana in an awkward spot. Dana has to decide risking a good fighters rep in the UFC against a guy who is more than likely going to run to another organization after the fight.... or Dana could just put some slob in the octagon with him and send him out on that note. I really hope that doesn't happen....Anyways... If he has to fight i think the loser of Couture/Sylvia would be a good opponent for him and be an excellent fight and let us all really see where he ranks among HW's...I mean deep down i'd really like to see Cro-Cop or Arlovski fight him... but I don't think that will happen because of the risk involved...I mean I just don't see any way Dana can risk the immediate future and top level of the UFC's HW division. Granted I think AA or CC could dispose of Vera via KO....But...We all know everyone's got a chin and crazier things have happened. Anyways, I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on that.

Dana can keep brandon sidelined until sept when his contract runs out, im guessing by doing that he is forcing brandon to either sign with ufc again or sit out another 8 months and all together sitting out from his last fight will be close to a year sitting at home, So if dana does let him fight it will be on a undercard against a bum

According to Sherdog, Gary Shaw confirmed that he offered him 6 figures per fight and a 7 figure signing bonus, so if that is the case, I can't really fault him for going after the cheddar. His career could end with one punch, so he has to get it while the going is good.

Yeah, this is his career! I'm upset that he probably won't be fighting in the UFC anymore but i don't blame him for wanting to fatten his wallet. I couldn't turn down that much money if it was offered to me!

Vera may be going where he is getting paid more but that's not neccessarily the best thing or decision for him as a fighter on the rise. He needs to be where the toughest competition is in the HW division. Of course Pride would be 1st and then UFC. He may make more money but he's only hurting himself fighting a lower tier HW div. This is all saying that if he goes elsewhere other than Pride or UFC like the rumors have stated.

Wow, I didn't realize they could shelf him till Sept. Well at least he did a bang up job helping Noons and The Crow train.

I think Vera is a great fighter but I'm disappointed in his apparent stubbornesss to re-sign with the UFC due to his perceived lack of approprite funding. Part of the lure of the UFC is sponsorship cash and a decent winning bonus for the top tier fighters (which will only grow exponentially in the coming years). But I have to say, with the WWE like fanfare with which the Elite card ended (and some priceless Crazy Horse soundbites) and the fact that they're the first to air on a major cable promotion (Spike ain't exactly "major"), going to Elite for a year or two might not hurt Vera (and I hate saying that because I don't want watered down promotions/stables).
