My friends and I were all asking why Renzo didn't throw a single elbow (well MAYBE) one, or any punches from the top. He looked like he was in full "striking is impure" mode.

I think shamrock said it best "He pussed out"
Actually, Renzo KO'd Oleg Taktarov in MARS. And the ref stopped the fight between him and Saku with the elbow.

gracie was getting constant takedowns and controlling Frank with side mount like 4-5 times? and then Frank threw illegal knees in the 2nd, and got DQed

check www.mmaweekly.com for the whole thing

The knees and disqualification aside, this fight was one of those fights that the guy doing no damage, just getting takedowns, was probably going to win based on scoring. Shamrock did ALL the damage in the first round. Renzo never tried a sub, never did anything but get a takedown. If EXC is going after more action, and have rules to create that action, a fighter that is just getting takedowns without pushing the action after the takedown shouldn't be rewarded.

I also doubt Renzo was going to continue to be able to get takedowns much longer. We will never know, but Shamrock was picking him apart standing, which is where they would have kept taking the fight, based on EXC rules.

i wont make excuses for Renzo on the lack of punches and transition to a better offensive position for subs at least, but against someone like Frank who is really active from the bottom, working for a sub is hard

What a terrible way to end their debut event lol
Couldn't agree more. People need to stop talking shit on Dean, Dean did his job and called the fouls, which were obviously intentional. Even if Frank didn't realize at the time that the knees were an illegal strike (which we all know he does) it doesn't matter. The strikes were intentionally to the head, and knees to the head of a downed opponent are illegal.

Now for Renzo, enjoy your win, P U S S Y! It was obvious that he was acting it up big time. He knew that if he refused to continue it would be a DQ victory, and he decided that was good enough.

I used to be a fan of Renzo, but I hate bitches, and really don't care to see him fight again.

Frank also lost some points in my book. Not as much for the knees, but for the comments afterward. "New Rules"? What the fuck are you talking about. MMA in the states have had a ban on knees to a downed opponent for years. Dumb ass!

Exactly! But he WASN'T working for a sub after the first 2 minutes of round 1. That is why I say the scoring being based on takedowns is LAME. This isn't NCAA wrestling. Take him down, then prove you are the better man at the ground game by doing something. Winning by decision with takedowns only, because the other guy is "hard to submit" is not what this EXC/UFC et al. should be about.

Guys,
The fight only went a round and a half. Renzo got a few takedowns, Frank landed a few decent punches and low kicks. What was it, 7,8 minutes? It was practically the beginning still!!

As for Renzo acting, watch the fight again. After the knees, he laid down and when you see his face again, his pupils are as big as nickles. You can't fake that. Those were eyes trying their hardest to focus.

Renzo was just a blanket after he cross hooked Franks leg each time. He did nothing to control the ground game except sit in side control eating franks knees he got rocked a few times and thats it he did nothing to Frank except lay on him he would of lost in the end but Frank Screwed up and didn't fight fair (Lame) and lost deservingly so. But Renzo was hamming it up eventhough he did get rocked by the second hit ....You can tell when they did the eye test his eyes didn't move smoothly to the side....I knew it was over then.
