yea not only great fighters but great athletes in general must have that killer instinct. Look at MJ,Tiger,Montana,Clemens. You could list many many more. Without that killer instinct an athlete can merely be "good" and never will be great.

Cro Cop actually isn't IMO. he's a guy that likes to finish his opponents in 1 shot, he stands and counter punches, picks his shots. he doesnt just press the pace and pounce. and except against Barnett and Wandy in the OWGP, he never went after opponents to finish with GnP

and it is really frustrating to watch some fighters who just will not capitalize when they have the clear advantage, i.e. picking apart the other guy in the standup, or smashing them on the ground.
Marcus Davis had Shonie Carter in some big trouble in the last UFN, but he just did not come after him. he was too afraid of Shonie's rep as a slick fighter that brings shit out of nowhere.

I agree with everything you said.

Diego showed a good example of smelling blood when he knocked down Riggs and went in for that knee. The ability to capitalize on the situations when you have your opponent rocked and end the fight is a huge part of making a great fighter.

sanchez is one of my least favorite fighters but i do respect him and his last performance was impressive, he finished that fight even after he took an eye poke or a shot i couldnt tell but he kept feeling his eye after the fight, with him being hurt he still finished

On this general topic - was anyone else frustrated as all hell during the last Evan Tanner v. Rich Franklin fight? It seemed to me at the time (granted, I haven't re-watched it) that Tanner absolutely slammed Franklin with a punch, and then totally failed to follow up at all. It seemed like he was afraid, despite the fact that he had just pasted the guy. Methinks Tanner had an opportunity to win that fight, and he missed it.

You know, I think there may be something to that. Some instincts can't be taught. Kind of like Hughes pounding on Royce's head. A fighter with less instinct would have probably kept trying for the choke.
