Can someone explain why Shogun vs Machida was scrapped? Or was there no reason?

it was only a rumoured fight, and IMO a smart business move by Zuffa, its WAY more profitable to have two great fighter that people know fighting eachother, than two great fighters fighting that are relatively unknown

Does Tait Flecher still fight? I know he was working as a body guard for Rogan or Bravo, but why the hell do those guys need a body guard like Tait when they could woop his ass?

And what the hell do they need bodyguards for?
I couldn't stand little Tait. Such an odd cat.

What does Bruce Buffer mean when he says "Freestyle" fighter? How is that different from "Mixed Martial Artist"? I know he says this about Chris Leben, so it might be code for "sucks"

I think they call Rich a freestyle fighter. In terms of Rich i think it means he does not favor one area more then another like he has finished just as many people by tko ko as he has submission

From what I've understood MMA = Sport and Freestyle = Fighting style... what that means is that they apparently don't recognize MMA as a fighting style and must instead use "Freestyle Fighter". Now, I could be fine with this (seeing as it's probably a bi-product of the old style-based UFC)... if they didn't announce fighters with both terms without any real consistency!
All in all: Freestyle Fighting = MMA and a lot of confusion!

I've heard Bruce say "mixed martial artist" before.. I think. Usually that, or their style (He said Big Nog was "BJJ Fighter" and Heath Herring as "Texas Jiu Jitsu", of course). But yeah, I guess there isn't much distinction. I just wondered what made Bruce, or the fighters themselves, pick one or the other.

That makes sense! I looked, and I guess Chris Leben has a bunch of armbar victories. Who knew?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freestyle_fighting
Might not be the most reliable source in the world, but at least it's something.
