Yeah you have to have the other tools in your game too even have a chance at showing your cardio. But yes I do think that if Overeem had Tito's cardio he would be a more complete fighter.

Japan and Brazil don't have Athletic Commisions (or other equivalent regulatory agency). So MMA isn't really sanctioned or unsactioned in those countries they have always simply been legal.
So from that perspective, the Brazillian Vale Tudo Competitions that have been going on for the past 70 or 100 years would be the first MMA organizations. Sanctioning by an outside body is mostly a concern in the US.

What is up with Pride allowing soccer kicks to the head and head stomps (ala Shogun/Wandy) to a downed opponent and not allowing elbows to the head? Does it have anything to do with the fact that Japan allows more brutal/viscious moves? It seems kinda odd that UFC is just the opposite - elbows to head allowed, but no kicks to the head of a downed opponent.

The New Jersey Athletic Commision decided that kicks & stomps are too dangerous and the other US athletic commisions followed suit. Pride on the other habs has no commision to prevent them from allowing them but do not allow elbows for fear that fights would be stopped due to cuts instead of a knockout or submission stoppage.

Thanks for the answer Clint. From your explanation, I still find it kinda odd that Pride would be so concerned about a stoppage over a cut, but not soccer kicks to the head of a downed opponent. The first time I saw a video of Shogun/Wandy teeing off on some poor dudes head, I was shocked, but strangely interested in it. I think the casual fan, if they saw that kinda stuff would love it. Although, chumps like McCain or other high and mighty people would find that quite savage.

Clint, who was the first person on record (video/print/audio) to say or write or come up with the term Mixed Martial Arts? When was the term MMA coined?

Basically, it's more about the fight ending early and not definatively than about safety. Yeah anti-MMA people in the US would shit if they saw someone soccer kick their opponents head.

That I have no idea. I know it was free fighting and no holds barred for a while but I don't know when the term MMA appeared.

Does anyone know the name of the unofficial score keeper for the UFC that the commentators get their scores from?

This is purely an opinion but who do you think would win in a stand up fight, Kit Cope or Anderson Silva?
