Default Nerve strikes!!

Are nerve strikes allowed in MMA? It doesn't say it's not in the rules, if so why isnt it used? I know in the early days of UFC the rules stated Nerve Strikes were not allowed but has it changed?

They are allowed, but they aren't very high percentage strikes. They aren't going to stop the fight and generally when an opponent is open of a nerve strike they are also open to be punched in the face or take a body shot.

Not the case in the Antoni Hardonk vs. Sherman Penedergarst fight.

Antoni Hardonk low kicked Sherman's syatic nerve and KO'd him. A KO from a low kick has only happened once before in the UFC but it can and does happen.

When you have better strikers you may see more of this. And you will see more of this from Hardonk.

Yes but that is the exception not the rule. I find it hard that Hardonk was aiming for the syatic nerve. He was simply aiming to destroy Sherman's legs with kicks.

Carefull what you read on "Sherdog!" The left jab was used to set up the right low kick that hit Sherman's sciatic nerve.

UFC pic of the kick that Ko'ed Sherman.

Someone else started this thread the other day under "Preasure Points" they are one in the same..
the reason you don't see this types of stikes is 1. most guys train a combo boxing/kickboxing/muay thia for their standup. None of them focus on pressure points/nerve strikes. 2 it takes years of practise to become effective at using them.. its one thing to pull it off when you are being attacked and are able to end a confrentation in a split second. its totally different to use them in a fight when someone is on their guard.

someone said earlier that if you can punch someone in the face why go for a nerve. a nerve strike can end a fight in an instand if applied correctly. much better than a bloody nose.
