One thing Chuck appears to have improved on is his timing when he counters. His last few knockouts, Babalu and Couture, have shown some uncanny timing for those knock out punches. For that, you don't need much speed, so the question arises whether Chuck can employ that same timing against a striker with good rhythm.

Uncanny timing? Babalu was rushing Chuck with series of half punches and Randy is not a striker. So far in the UFC, Chuck just had to deal with takedown defense and keeping the fight standing. As we all saw, even Tim Sylvia can do that against one of the world's best grapplers. I guess Sylvia is on his way to becoming a "legend" also.

Everyone knows that Chuck and Dana White give each other reach-arounds...so dont u think that if Chuck wanted to fight Rampage badly enough, he could make it happen? I mean honestly...if Chuck went to Dana and told him he reallllllly wanted the fight, dont u think Dana would make it happen? or is it a lot more complicated than that?

I think TriangleChoke has it right. Dana's ratings cannot withstand Chuck losing to Rampage again!

Its always going to be more complicated than that when your under contract to a company like the UFC. Chuck stated numerous times wanting to avenge his loss to Rampage from 3 years ago as well as wanting Wandi... been saying that for soem time now. Dana says he's been workin on it but who knows. Its a matter of where the fight will take place. For instance with the likes of a Wand vs Chuck fight... Pride and UFC want that fight to take place in their own respected ppv. $$ and recognition always complicates things. It sucks too cause all the fans want these things but nobody has delivered.

I already stated I dont see Chuck losing when he is trying to avenge a loss from 3 years ago. But either way if Chuck did lose to Rampage in a rematch I dont even see it hurting UFC's ratings. They still own the market in the U.S. and just because someone loses doesnt mean everyones gonna stop watching. I mean Ken Shamrock was used as a punching bag pretty much but he was drawing big numbers for UFC still.

Yeah but people in the US think Chuck is the best. They knew KEN was washed up.

I think some of the prestige of the Iceman would take a hit with him losing to B fighter from Pride again...

The only way this happens is when Dana is ready for it to happen. Look for when Chuck is 38 yrs old and barely holding on to the UFC title...then Dana will mark him for the loss.

And that's exactly why I called the timing uncanny. Normally, a striker has to see his opponent leave an opening several times before capitalizing on it. But, in the case of both Babalu and Couture, Chuck caught them with clean punches to the jaw as each was completing a flourish of punches. That kind of timing is almost instinctive.

Tim didn't knock anyone out.

Besides the fact that comparing Tim's striking to Chuck's is an insult to the iceman lol.

That and Chuck has legitimate takedown defense skill. With Sylvia, it was just the fact that the matchup favored him. 6'6 giant defending against the musclebound, slightly below average height Monson.
