Why some idiots don't like ground fighting
I think it is because ground fighting does not look like much. People want to look cool and ego is a HUGE part of the martial arts, like it or not. Many people have that dream of looking like a bad ass of putting someone through a plate-glass window with a Texas sidekick. BJJ to the untrained person does not look like much, just glorified wrestling and I think many people want to show off and be flashy, rather then have real self-defense skills. I think a big reason people take up to martial arts is to impress people and what’s more impressive then throwing a kick sky high or smashing boards?, it is an instant demonstration of skill. Instructors looking to sell their art to the uninformed and gullible public need only fly across the room with some jump kick and scream K-A-R-A-T-A-Y!!! most people will look at that and think “bad ass! I want to do that.” BJJ does not really have any eye candy, just real self-defense. What do you people think; do you think some idiots shy away from BJJ because it does not fit the model of looking like an action hero?

Most people just don't understand it. It looks boring to the untrained eye. Once you start learning it yourself and watching more and more of it you start to understand the subtle intricacies that make it so great.

They are just uneducated and not necessarily idiots. Stop being so pissy about it.

When I train BJJ I find it to be really repetitive but there are obvious benefits... But this thread is kinda EBW cause anybody competing in MMA nowadays that doesn't train some sort of ground work is asking for it...
So I don't see who doesn't really like ground fighing per say I think today's MMA fighter just has preferences and comfort zones...

I am talking about people just starting out in a martial art. I think they base their decision when choosing a style more on flash then on substance. Many people have big egos and being able to impress people by doing a spin hook kick makes them feel sweet and tuff. And seeing, as most people do not know anything about martial arts, they see the spin hook kick and think that person is dangerous...which is what many people want others to think about them, because they need their ego stroked. BJJ doesn't provide the WOW factor from people, if they hear you do martial arts and they say "show me" and you scissor sweep them, they will walk away unimpressed, but if you do some flashy jump kick they will think you aren't to be messed with. I think many people would rather just be perceived as tuff then actually have any real self-defense skills and flashy arts are an easy answer to that.

i love watching ground fighting! seeing someone get pounded into the mat is so much more exciting then a stand up KO IMO.

I took karate and Tae Kwon Do when I was younger, and all the kicking and punching and stuff was always fun, but I remember just always looking forward to any sort of grappling, whether it be the judo my karate instructor taught us, or the hap ki do and judo the TKD instructor showed us. I always loved grappling, especially since I tended to be a lot better at it than strike sparring. Striking frustrated me, because my legs and arms are very short, but once I got inside and on them, I frequently won.
I dunno, but I always thought seeing a guy snap someone else's neck in a movie looked way more badass than flying across the room and nailing him with a flying kick....and that looks way badass to me.

lol its not 'stupid'... it's just people's preference...
i think when people first start watching, they don't know all the things that cna be done on the ground so all it really looks liek is a bunch of lay n' pray...
personally i prefer ground word because i know all the submissions that can come out of it...
that's more exciting to me.. but to someone who doesnt know.. it's boring
