The idea of 'nut huggers' and 'haters' on internet messaging boards can easily be explained by the concept of group polarization.

Basically, when a certain group (MMA fans) are divided into smaller sub groups (Fedor fans, non-Fedor fans), fewer members of the initial group are allowed to remain neutral or hold moderate viewpoints.
Moreover, when polarization does occur, the contrasting sub groups tend to make increasingly disagreeable arguments in their favour.

So the way human tendency affects discussions concerning polarizing figures (such as Fedor, Brock, GSP, Anderson Silva, etc) is that your opinion on the fighter is pushed to extreme ends of each spectrum by your contrast to the opposing group.

Simply put, if no one ever said 'Fedor sucks' there would be no need for signatures that begin in 'Dear anti Fedors and UFC nut huggers blah blah blah...'. In turn, one extreme view causes another extreme view in the opposing direction.

So basically, by expressing an extreme view in favour of your intial position, you are actually CREATING the extreme view in the opposing direction, which is probably the complete opposite intention you had.

Ok swift i get that, I do. My questions is, and I'm speaking objectively, not as fan, how can you honestly hate on a guy who's 30-1? Where do you find fault in a man who fights in such a dominant manner. If you look at things objectively and you know the sport as a whole and not just what you force your girlfriend to watch with you on spike tv. He doesn't just beat the guys he fights he fucking destroys them. who else in our sport does that? I mean really, who else walks out every single time, punching like a abrahams tank, and submitting with enough force to make an anaconda scared for his life? If he get's beat by rodgers, I'll stop watching MMA all together.

also to the guy on page one who thinks fedors last few opponents suck you need a fucking reality check.

I have often wondered that myself, but people find ways to discredit Fedor and their motivation?

Simple, he didn't go with the UFC, so people hate on him.

"Nuthuggers" are deemed so, because they defend his freedom to sign wherever he chooses to, without falling into the ignorant and juvenile practice of discrediting any NON-UFC fighter.

I disagree, I think nuthuggers are defined as people who irrationally "defend" their favorite fighter (often telling us what the fighter thinks as if they are him/her) when no one had even attacked or discredited the fighter. It's bad with Fedor though mainly because if you disagree with something he does you're classified as a "UFC nuthugger" or "another hater" when odds are you probably like the guy a lot just disagree with something particular.

It get's even worse because a lot of times on this forum I can't seem to figure out why some of these people defend Fedor or why they have to do it in all caps when no one really said anything bad about the guy. It's like some people harbor so much RAGE about the lack of omnipotent optimism regarding Fedor they lash out randomly and as a result we're on the third page defending Fedor for no apparant reason.

Its very simple, people that hate him are generally people that just watch UFC and believe all the bullshit that Dana says, if Dana says "Fedor is afraid of UFC" they will believe it, they really think that Top competition is just in UFC and Fedor is ducking them because he is afraid.

They have probably watched only 3 or 4 fights of Fedor and like very much to remind how he was rocked by Fujita and how Arlovksy was"dominating" him before that "lucky punch".

Normally this people uses such logic as "If Fedor KOd Arlovksy in 3 minutes and Rogers did the same in 20 seconds then definitely Rogers is a better fighter"

I feel very fortunate because I started watching MMA when Pride was still alive, so I had the pleasure of watching what really great MMA is, I have watched almost all Fedor fights (probably I have missed 1 or 2 from his Ring days) so I know his level as a fighter and I am sure as hell that a big man with a cock in his chest with a record of 4-1 wont definitely intimidate Emelianenko.

Unfortunately there are tons of people that started watching MMA probably 2 years ago and think that UFC is the only good organization that exists and everybody should go there, they barely know Fedor and think that he is very overrated and is scared of the uFC, that is the reason why tehy dont like him.
